The arrival of Jack Andrew....

Hi ladies,

On Friday May 9, I went to my second NST for the week as I have had high Blood Pressure and a hospitalization in the previous few weeks.  My BP was still all over the place, but holding steady when in a relaxed, laying on your left side mode.  That Monday, I did my FOURTH 24 pee in a jug experience for this pregnancy.  I felt like crap.  I was just seven days from finally being done, even though I have been suffering since week 30 from the swelling, the headaches, and overall ass that was the third trimester for me.

The appointment went on forever.  I was 140/100 when I first sat down...but as usual, Jack was over-performing on his NST and I was convinced they would send me off to return on Monday.  They retook my pressure at the end after laying on my side and it was 130/90.

The my doc told me it was Baby day and I about shat my pants...my work pants.  Apparently, my conference calls set for that afternoon were now going to be replaced by a c-section.  I called my husband, my Dad, my sister, and freaked the eff out.  I e-mailed my boss and called my assistant...all in denial of the words coming out of my mouth.  I got home and packed my bag with the rest of the stuff I needed. When my hubby got home, he quickly packed a bag for himself, we ran to the Florist up the block and got flowers for my daughter, who was at school unaware that we were on our way to the hospital.

We got to the hospital around 2.  Checked in, got dressed and waited.  My doc came in around 4:30 and it moved quick.  I was taken to the OR at 5 pm and after the socially awkward anesthesiologist missed on his first spinal try, I was laid back onto the table, naked as the day I was born.  So surreal.  My husband came in and the doc got to work.  What seemed like forever and a minute and he was OUT! Jack was here and he had quite a set of lungs.  First words out of my OB's mouth "look at the balls on this one"....the kid has a huge set....that's just my doc's personality ad it actually cracked me up while I was about to lose it.  Then my hubby went over and they started to clean him up.  He trimmed the rest of the cord (which holy lord was so long and much bigger than I thought).  He was bouncing back and forth between his freaked out wife and his new son.

They brought him over to me and I cried.  It all went so fast.  I was wheeled into recovery by 6pm.  Just about an hour to change my life.  As I returned to recovery my Dad and his wife arrived and then the whole crazy family showed up...a little much for me in recovery...but it really was such a blur.  2 hours in recovery with him being loved on and they wheeled me to my room.  He got his first bath and we were in love.  My daughter was OVER the moon to meet her brother.

I was so thirsty, so I had some water...and then I started to puke.  That cleared the room quickly LOL.  We settled in for the night.  My husband stayed with me. We sent Jack to the nursery around 1 am for a few hours of sleep.  He was back at 6:30 and honestly just such a cute, quiet lil munchkin.  Saturday, I was feeling pretty good.

Sunday, I had an issue swallowing when I woke up and like a scene from ER, there were 25 docs called into my room.  Apparently my reflux and post nasal drip met and my epiglottis (that hangy ball thing in the back of your throat) was swollen to 4 times it's normal size, so when I tried to get the phlegm up, it blocked my throat.  I was freaked out by my swelling too...OMG the size of my feet and legs...

But, apparently, the major concern though was my blood levels.  My hemoglobin remained severely low (as it had been for weeks).  I was not being released on Monday as I hoped.  At a 7 and dropping, I was given two units of blood on Monday (which was a long and exhausting experience).  My levels went to 9 and they agreed to release me with Iron supplements to be taken for the forseeable future.

I got home on Tuesday and Jack is absolutely amazing.  He sleeps ALL the time.  Eats like a champ, and is already back at his birth weight.  Last night he slept from 10pm-3:30 am...I only hope this lasts.

I am slowly learning how to be a boy mommy (point the peepee DOWN, not UP).

Without further adieu...Jack Andrew, Born 5/9/14 at 5:25 PM
