I forgot about the squeeze bottle and gigantic undies that they give you in L&D.
So my tips to you girls, use the mesh panties. Love your squeeze bottle, bring your own roll of toilet paper especially after delivery,
Your own comfy blanket, and socks!

I had girlfriends who totally teased me for using depends! They were soooo much comfier than bulky pads!
Oh and the ice packs!!! Steal as many as you can!! They saved me!
Also, I love living in Canada because I wasn't ever charged for anything I took home. If you requested a private room, you paid $43 a night here. And our insurance covered that

Also how long to wait before having sex again? Was it (excuse the analogy) like a hotdog in a hallway? Do kegals actually help?
What other goodies can you get from a hospital? What should I ask my hospital (or at my first ob) appointment?
Sorry I really have no one else to ask these things to. I am the first of my friends to have kids and my mom and I don't talk.
You'll get diapers, and aspirator, mesh panties, a peri bottle... And basically you can take anything that is left in your room that try won't use on another patient because of sanitary reasons. If you have a nice nurse ask her what you can take.
Pooping after my c-section was scarier than birth was despite an emergency c-section, stool softeners are a must!!
I do worry about having a c section because I know the hospital keeps you longer, you can't stand up with the baby (?), and you have to take really good care of the incision. I would actually really appreciate if c section mamas would give the details of their experiences, the pros and cons, either in this thread or another

Ask away! I had a planned c/s because my son was breech and an external version didn't work, and he had really bad cord placement. I only stayed 3 days in the hospital, a day longer than normal. I don't remember them telling me not to stand with the baby, but it didn't want to do a whole lot of standing. I was walking about three hours after me section, and the recovery wasn't so bad. I couldn't do stairs for two weeks, and couldn't lift anything weighing more than the baby for at least 6 weeks. I started doing light house stuff (dishes and laundry) a week later.
Warning : long post... I had an unplanned c-section. I was one week over my due date, so was induced. Pitocin was started at 8a and I was fully dilated by 8p. Labored for about half hour but my son's heart rate kept dropping so they did a c-section to avoid further complications. I was in the hospital 4 nights, which is standard for c-section (vs. 2 days for vaginal birth). I was pretty out of it after the surgery, prob due to a combination of being exhausted and the anesthesia. I still remember being afraid to carry my newborn thinking (while in bed!) I would drop him. I do regret not being able to hold my son tight that first night. He spent the night in the nursery as I couldn't stay awake. The next morning, the nurse encouraged me to get up and walk a few steps which wasn't too bad as I was on some heavy pain medication. I think they removed the staples around the incision around 48 hours post-op (could be been 72 hours but I don't remember exactly). I showered for the first time on day 3 I think which wasn't too bad. It was very hard moving around but manageable. They tell you not to touch the incision area but rather to just let soapy water run over it to keep it clean. I was shocked by the amount of bleeding and the fact that it lasted for several several days (I think 1 week+). Was heavier than my heaviest period day. Thank god for the hospital mesh panties and 6"x12" commercial grade pads. It took about 5-6 days post- op before I could tolerate the pain without pain meds. Couldn't hold anything heavier than the baby for about. 1.5-2 weeks. Happy to answer any questions. I will likely be having a scheduled c -section this time around.
I knew about the peri bottle, but WHAT ARE MESH UNDERWEAR AND WHY DO I NEED THEM??? I have never heard of them. I don't know why I am so scared of them - maybe because I am intelligent yet I can't possibly figure out why I would need mesh underwear? I mean, I know they can't be like the sexy fishnet thongs I wore in my 20s...I'm confused and scared!
They aren't scary. They are super gentle (don't push anywhere that might hurt), hold the GIANT pads in place, are nice and cool for those awful hot flashes when your hormones shift, and you don't ruin your own undies (birth and time after birth is a bit messy).
