Trying to Get Pregnant

Blue cervix

I have been spotting and was about 10 days late for period when a bleed came for 21/2days.. I was concerned about the spotting so I went for a Pap test. Dr said everything looked great but my cervix was blue which is a sign of pregnancy. I was sent for blood urine tests which both came back negative . My last period was march 31/14 and 2 day bleed was may 7.. Dr told me to wait 2 weeks and retest.. Has anyone ever had this experience.. Any other reasons my cervix would be blue.. She called it the Chadwick's sign

Your cervix looks blue during pregnancy due to increased blood flow. I have never heard of it outside of pregnancy. If you're getting negative pregnancy tests I don't think it would be related to pregnancy.
Son: Jackson, 11/02/06, stillborn due to PPROM and IUGR. Over the next ten years we had 9 miscarriages from 8-14 weeks. On May 18, 2016 my daughter, Ridley, was born. We're OADNBC.

I think my sarcasm font was broken..

Anyway, a Google search shows that it could be a SIGN of pregnancy. It doesn't confirm pregnancy. With negative blood & urine tests, my instinct tells me you're not pregnant at this time.

  • It may be that your cervix looked darker to the doctor compared to other women that she has seen.  Was she a new doc by chance?  Chadwick's is an early sign of pregnancy...but it may just be that you have a darker colored cervix and that is natural for you.  I wouldn't worry about it too much unless you start noticing problems (like pain with sex or oddly colored, foul-odored vaginal discharge).  You wouldn't have a negative pregnancy test and positive Chadwick's.  The pregnancy test would turn positive before you would have the Chadwick's sign.

Chadwick's sign is a thing people. Quit being dicks just because you haven't heard of it.

I didn't doubt it was a thing but she took tests and they were negative. What else is there to say?

Besides, I found it rude that she has only ever posted twice, both of them about her blue cervix. No intro, no support, nothing. Why should I be super nice to someone who already has an answer to her question and is just fishing for someone to say congrats your pregnant?

There's quite a gap between super nice and being a dick. Just FYI.

Since your tests are negative I would say that it is just a natural variation in your cervix and I wouldn't give it too much thought. I would test again in a week though to be sure. I highly doubt you have any reason to be concerned about an infection though (since you're not presenting with any other symptoms). I'm not quite sure why it had to be taken in that direction.

When my cervix is blue I try to cheer it up with a glass of wine while watching my favourite rom com.  ;)

As PPs have said, just because Chadwick's Sign *may* be a sign of pregnancy doesn't mean it can confirm it - just as fertile CM can't actually confirm impending ovulation, increased blood flow to your cervix could or could not be related to pregnancy.  Ultimately, multiple negative urine and blood tests would seem to indicate you're not pregnant at this time.

I just really laughed out loud to this!

OP, just wanted to say I hope everything turns out okay for you.

This.  You had your period.  Maybe it was lighter than normal.  What I don't understand is why spotting/period would make someone think they need a pap??

    ---quote---

I could see if she had spotting over multiple cycles and hadn't had a recent pap as it can be a sign of cervical cancer but certainly not a concern with spotting in only one cycle. People always seem to want to jump to the worst case scenario and want to believe that something just *has* to be horribly wrong if something slightly out of the norm happens. Sometimes a wait and see approach is more appropriate than running straight to the doctor.

Calm down. Defensive much? I thought your post was funny. I'm known to be a huge dick at times. Your post was hardly most dickish response here - it's your defense is what I was responding to. It's not like GM called you out directly, but you felt like you had to justify yourself.

It's a fact. There is a gap between super nice and dick. Well placed snark falls in that gap.

    Your original reply? Funny.

    Your comment about STDs? Dickish.

And then there are people telling her she shouldn't have gone to the doctor for bleeding for 21-22 days? Seriously?

I read it as 2 1/2. Hell ya she needs to go if it was 22! Shit.

    ---quote---

I read it as 2 1/2 days too. Obviously 22 daya of spotting requires an examination.
  • Fair enough, GM. As long as we are in agreement that my first post was funny. It needed a warning, but it was funny.
