@mommyp710 - how is it going at home with Max's monitors? Is he on oxygen as well?
Re: *^*Preemie/NICU Check-In 5/16*^*
He is finally up to 5 pounds as of last night! And I find it hard to believe that It's been over 2 months now since he was born, time is going by so fast.
I'm not new. I just hate The Bump.
Max's first week has been great. For the most part he sleeps, eats, and poops

All the babes are adorable, and I love the updates, especially with pics so keep them coming. Continue'd T&P's to all of you and that everyones progress continues to look up, and everyone will be home soon.
Evangeline is now 3lbs and on the nasal cannula. She is meeting with the OT to work on sucking so she can start to bottle feed in the next few weeks. She loves her milk! I hope that she is a good eater when the time comes. She is also super fiesty and rolls all over her isolate.
We are doing ok. Both of us kind of hit a wall the other day. We just can't wait for this chapter to be behind us and be at home with all of our kids and settling into a new routine. This experience is the most stressful time of my life and sometimes it is hard to remember life before. I do feel blessed for her and so glad that she is making progress every day.
here she is with her boob pillow looking all sleepy and sweet.
9 angels in heaven-3 in my arms and 1 in the NICU
Mono/di twin girls: Josephine born to heaven and Evangeline born Earthside at 25w
I am trying very hard to pump breast milk for her! I'm in an enormous amount of pain and after a month here I had my first break down last night.
My body wasn't ready to have a baby but I'm hoping it will all come together!

I'm so glad to see the updates from you other preemie moms! Looks like the tiny babies are making some great progress. Our girls are doing well; Kate actually came home with us yesterday. We've been scrambling to get last-minute things settled at home, so between that and visiting the NICU, I've been missing out on my bump time. Last night was interesting, particularly given our dogs' interest in every noise made by the new tiny household dictator, but DH and I both managed to get a little sleep. I'm nervous about whether we're ever going to be able to transition to breastfeeding--Kate just doesn't seem that interested and I'm worried that once both get home I'm going to have enough problems just keeping up with both of their schedules. Not giving up yet by any means, but when trying to balance feeding and pumping at 3am, I can understand the allure of formula...
Eva is still hanging out at the hospital. She's been doing great with everything except eating--she's a little lazy in that department, so we still have to do partial tube feedings several times a day. I was initially upset that we weren't going to be able to bring both girls home together, but at least we're getting to break into this new routine a bit more gradually. The biggest concern I have now is that I won't be at the hospital as much since Kate's home. I know she's in good hands there, but mommy guilt has already reared its ugly head with this issue.
And now what you're really waiting for--picture time! Here's Kate taking her car seat test on Thursday while Eva takes a nap:
Brynlee Rae was born May 11 at 433 with emergency c section ended up with general anesthesia. Weight 5 lbs 9 oz 18.4 inches long.
Hey everyone!! This is my first post in NICU/premi. Been following along for weeks while on hospital bed rest because I figured we would be joining the group.
I have been away since birth with a little lite lurking here and there. It's been an emotional roller coaster. I'm sure you girls all know that. We are super lucky to have the best NICU within my reach. Also at the same town and hospital I work at. It is a castle. Ill get a photo of it. It's way cool. Every baby had its own private room and a place for mommy and daddy to sleep. There is Skype to check on baby and also allow for non approved (kids) to see baby in this amazing waiting room with games toys a tree house in doors and two x box kinects. We have support groups and companies bring in lunch for families. There are activities for siblings and children and her nurses are amazing. They just adore her. They play dress up. Sing to her. Snuggle her. They have baby rockers to rock your LO if you have to be away. It's truly amazing!!
She is doing great. It was rough at first but was extubated quickly and put on nasal cannula. Couldn't eat for 2 days because the magnesium made her tummy sleepy and she would have vomited everything anyways. She was grounded from her paci because they got too close and she forgot to breath and went to town sucking. They got supervised paci visits and now she is allowed to have it. She loves to suck on fingers and hand and anything. We've gone through a few IVs some in the head. She graduated from 5 cc a feeding to my breast milk and breast feeding twice a day and gets pumped milk on demand and ad lib. So as much as often as she wants. Got her up to eating enough to not need her IV. Also keeps her own temp up and is in a big girl crib. We are doing the car seat test tonight.
Ill write more but my boobs are needed for feeding.
We have had a rough week. Two days after we reintubated, we had to extubate because the cysts on his lungs were getting bigger. He made it 52 hours off the vent, but by Sunday Kolt developed a severe bloody nose that clotted off and prevented him from breathing. So he had to be bagged and then reintubated to another vent called the jet. It is basically a gentler ventilator.
Then by Tuesday he had swollen up again and gained over 500 grams. Once we got him back on the vent, they brought him back to full feedings and apparently the chylothorax we thought was healed was not. So fluid was again building up in his pleural cavity and tissues.
It seems that whatever Kolt has, they're not even totally sure, it's a spectrum, meaning it's this chylothorax plus a lymphatic problem where the fluid that drains into the lymphatic system just seaps back out into the tissues. The only way to prove he has this problem is to do a biopsy of his lung (where there is a high concentration of lymphatic tissue) and look at it under a microscope to see if there is any abnormality.
If he does not get dramatically better by Wed, like getting off the vent, he will have surgery Thursday to 1. Deflate the cysts on his lungs 2. Perform the biopsy and 3. Do a pleurodesis a process where they scrap the outside of the lung (pleura) and the wall of the chest to get the lungs to adhere to the chest wall. This will eliminate the space for fluid to build up therefore making it find another place to go, hopefully back to the lymphatic system.
Based on how the last couple days have gone, it seems like he's bought his ticket to surgery on Thursday.
Thank you so much. Luckily if he does have to have surgery the surgeon is the Chief of pediatric surgery and world leader of endoscopic surgery. So it should be as minimally invasive as possible.

I get more posted soon
