The whole "twins born holding hands" media sensation

It's cute. I get it.

But I'm seriously getting annoyed having to answer questions from people who think that could happen with my twins. I'm tired of having to explain, "No, those twins shared the same sac and placenta. Mine do not. That's EXTREMELY rare."

"But wouldn't it be cute if they were?"

I get it too but the added risk of mono/mono twins is not worth the cute factor! The images I see of my mono/di twins lying side by side at my ultrasound every two weeks to look for signs of TTTS is plenty cute for me, thanks.

Some people can be so dumb..."sign me up for twins that are super high risk so they can be born holding hands. Because what's cute matters most!" SMH.

The hand holding is super cute, yes, totally understand. And what a precious, rewarding moment for a mom who went through a lot of extra worry and risks because they were mo-mo. I'm so glad her babies arrived safely and apparently very healthy too...hats off to her! I know I was so relieved when our tech found the membrane the first time. It only took 3 u/s and a couple pins-and-needles months.

Yup.....

On the other hand, before conceiving twins, I was like the general public and knew the bare minimum about having twins, especially all the possible complications. For us, a story about mo/mo twins gets our hearts beating a little fast, but for others who haven't been there, it's all cute factor.....as annoying as the ignorance is, I try to give most people the benefit of the doubt and assume that they aren't being intentionally blase about something so serious.

Haha I'm glad someone else mentioned this! Does anyone remember how often your newbies startled and got their arms tangled, or were next to each other and touched and grasped? A reflex. Still kinda cute... But a reflex. Sigh.

Beautiful story but to those of us who know the risks of mono/ mono we understand what the mom went through. I look at the story quite different

Just wait a few months... Instead of hand holding they start sitting on each other. And making each other cry by hair pulling and toy stealing. Now I get "maybe they need to be separated" vs "do they snuggle?"
And I agree with pp- a huge cuteness reward for that mommy. I can't even imagine the stress of mono/mono. Di/di was as much as I could handle!
Eta: look at what they did to the toy box! Toys everywhere!!!

Either I'm missing something in the story or I'm totally cynical on this one.or both lol. They really took the babies out together at exactly the same time? instead of one at a time? Seems unlikely.

They were not born holding hands. They were born 45 seconds apart and held hands when the doctors put them next to each other. It's cute but not uncommon. I have like a million photos of my two "holding hands."

That's the same thing I thought too.

The headlines seem really misleading. I have gotten some people commenting or trying to share it with me on FB. I also had several people try to share that twins holding each other in the water thing on mine too. I don't really get it. I'm sure the hand holding thing was very endearing for the parents though.

Honestly, it's cute but people always assume the babies must be cuddling and stuff in there. Mine have separate sacs, I don't know how much they can actually touch each other but at every scan they are always kicking/hitting each other: either it's a punch to the the head, butt to the face, or kick to the crotch. I have yet to see cuddling lol, but the hitting makes me laugh... to me that's siblings for you Sums up my childhood with three bothers anyway.

Mine are in separate sacs too and we haven't seen hitting and kicking yet but these two always seem to have their heads together. Makes it look like they're holding a little conference in there, would seem that the current subject is how to position themselves most inconveniently for the MFM.

It's like, every time a set of identical triplets gets on the news, 4,347,333 people send me a link, post on my FB, tag me in posts, etc, etc. I get soooooo annoyed by it. Gotta love the media for making non-newsworthy things news. Ugh.

I got the video of the talking twins (the ones standing in the kitchen) from a ton of people as soon as the "we're having twins" news broke.

have mo-mo girls, and I am just so thankful they got here and are healthy! "Cute" is beside the point....but I am with a PP....I am unsure how they pulled them out at the exact same time holding hands. I had a team of doctors, and it was all very organized, and still, they came out separately. My cords were so tangled, they had to cut B out...as I am sure that lady's cords were. They are precious babies, and a lucky mom, but I think the media blew that up a little.

My boys held hands the first time I held them both at the same time. There were in the NICU for 69 and 71 days......
