Alexander had several heart rate drops during the night and, of course, tried to give me a heart attack by refusing to keep breathing as soon as I got to the hospital. He has been doing well for a couple hours, but I'm still on edge.
The doctor couldn't tell me why this was happening. He just listed about 4 things that could be causing it or any combination of the 4.
The doctor did say that this is "all normal for his prematurity". Sorry, Doc, but hearing that your childs heart rate slowing and them not breathing is normal does not make it better!!
Any thoughts and prayers are greatly appreciated.
*update* Thank you for all of the support ladies! Alexander has been given a nasal cannula and started on antibiotics, to be safe. He started having trouble controlling his temperature. He seems to be doing a little better. Only 1 heart rate drop so far tonight. I'm hoping my little man makes a speedy rebound.
** Alexander has an infection. They are running more tests to see what kind. This mama is barely holding it together

**update 5/20: Alexander had a blood transfusion over the weekend along with several tests. Found out yesterday that his infection is gram negative bacilli e. Coli. We were told it is the most common infection for preemies. It has only shown up in his blood, not his spine (thank God).
Alexander is already feeling better AND I finally got to hold him again yesterday, which made Mama feel better. Thank you all so much for your prayers and well wishes for my little man.
