@kaysa2‌ please tell me to myob if needed but do you refer to your partner as BFF? Because I think that's really sweet

@elsa1688 - I use BFF because he is.  I'm a lesbian, and I knocked myself up with a $2 baby medicine syringe and a cup of his sperm.  He's totally engaged with the whole baby thing though.  And we live together, so he's super convenient for child care!
I love it! More power to you lady!

  • Dh is OOT tonight but he called me to tell me that the overhead at his work are looking at him to do a 120 day detail in a town 2 hrs away starting mid June. We are due June 14th. Basically he would spend a max of 8 days home each month. It's a great opportunity and would technically give him a pay raise during the time being and a promotion in the long run. I'm not mad about it but we just moved here and I don't have any family close by. I'm used to him being gone a lot through the summer and even gave birth to our second child without him around. I guess I'm just trying to consider our options. It will be tough but I think he should take it considering he will be gone on assignments anyways.

Sorry just trying to sort out my feelings on the matter.

  • I got bit by a spider on my ankle last night and now my whole lower leg/ankle/foot is super swollen and itchy. As if pregnancy swelling wasn't enough now I have spider bite swelling too. I feel like my leg is going to explode. :( No bueno.

I would get this checked out. "Spider bites" are usually MRSA (staph infection)

  • Two things.

    1. I totally get the disconnected thing. I feel super guilty about it too because thr journey get have a baby was tough. (couldve been worse but still it was bumpy) H is totally connected and I can't tell him because it makes me really sad. I will say that two weeks ago I had an ultrasound and the tech flipped it to 3d. Seeing him so clear and knowing basically what he'll look like has helped.

    2. My brother thinks I'm crazy/stupid FTM because I don't plan on having baby in my room for 6 months. He told me that's the norm and it makes everything easier. I think he's crazy. What say you, how long will baby be staying in your room? If at all.

You may be right, but just to give a different experience so she doesn't freak out before getting it checked, I get bit by spiders all the time. Especially now since they seem to be multiplying like crazy. One bite I had got infected and they just have me a tetnus shot and some antibiotics and I was good to go. Def get it checked out but it might not be a big deal so try not to worry. (MRSA sounds hella scary)

Absolutely.  Good point.  I would just hate for it to be something worse and not be checked out.  At least keep a close eye on it!

  • Up at 3:30 am due to the spider bite that has caused my whole foot/ankle/lower leg to swell up. It's itchy, it hurts, and the swelling is getting worse. Good thing I am already going to the hospital in the morning for an OB appointment so I can get this looked at while I'm there too. Also, I must stop google "brown recluse bites" because if I wasn't already awake those images would be giving me nightmares!

Oh god, I hope it's not that! I know I got bit by something. I was outside and felt the bite. At first I thought it was just a mosquito because after I got bit it had a little raised itchy bump like a mosquito bite but 24 hrs later and my whole ankle/foot/lower leg is swollen. I will be getting it checked out in the morning.

  • @jclester614‌ you should have seen my face when I realized that c was sitting in a car seat and we were expected to take her with us when we left the hospital...and that was after two days of snuggling her!! It comes, once she home it was easier because she was all mine. No nurses to help, just me, and we had to figure it out

That's what everyone says... So I'm hoping it will be true for me too. : )
  • @rachel5130 You guys are adorable! I love your family pic!

  • @mrsgerman - We put DD in her own room the day she turned 2 weeks. She was in the PnP in our room prior to that and I totally didn't sleep the first couple of nights because I kept waking up to check if she was breathing. This time, I plan on putting baby in the crib since day 1 unless s/he disturbs DD's sleep (room sharing), then we'll reconsider.

It's definitely doable, though keep in mind that the ideal temp for a baby in order to prevent SIDS is actually 68. I would be more concerned with the warm room than the cool one. DD slept in a footed sleeper, swaddle and hat so she was well-bundled. We live in Miami and keep our AC at 72 overnight and her room is the smallest, so it's also the coldest. Girl refused a blanket until she was 2.5 so they like the cold.
  • StrawberryDreams219‌ - Happy Anniversary! My and DH's anniversary was yesterday, too. Here's an AW pic of us with our fur baby enjoying a last trip before baby gets here! Love that man.

Aw! You guys are adoreable! And your LO is totally going to have the prettiest eyes!! :)

Holy crap that's cold.  Our AC bill would be like $600/month in the summer if we kept it down that low.  LOL.

  • @nutmegs8‌ DH is also at the same place you are. I've had newborn experience (but not my own child) but DH has had zero. And part of him is like "OMG I'm going to be responsible for an itty bitty human". Don't worry, you've got this!

  • Got my leg/foot looked at today. They looked at it and brushed it off as probably being a red ant bite and that I just need to ice it and take Benadryl. I get bit by red ants all the time, including one last week. I just get a semi-hard itchy bump with no swelling so I'm having a hard time believing that. Plus I've been icing and taking Benadryl and it's not doing anything. So frustrated.

  • Ugh, just had to write an apology email to a woman I work with for being rude over the phone.  While I do not agree that asking her one question she should have answered weeks ago via email was "interrogating" her, I probably was pretty snotty about it.  I just can't deal with difficult people any more.  Especially when they refuse to respond to emails and then act surprised when they get a phone call.  Now I feel like total shit.  Can today seriously just be over already? :-<

  • @StrawberryDreams219‌ Ahh that's so freaking awesome! I have like 60 something newbie PFs for the girls and some random larger size ones, I wanted to try taking a chunk of them and turning them into fitteds. I like GMDs workhorses but not the price! I bought a sewing machine now I just have to figure out how to use it haha. Great job mama!!

  • I swear kids in the middle age range are the biggest germ carriers. The middle school son was the one to bring H1N1 home years ago and just 2 weeks before the vaccine was released. At that time DD in elementary school so they were all about wash hands during the day so she didn't get it (plus sent her away when we were all sick). Over the years, strep has come home from the middle school as well as the lovely norovirus. Now DD is wrapping up her final days in middle school recovering from a respiratory infection she came down with after the end of the year dance last week. And guess who's now coughing and feeling miserable? This preggo lady. Dang preteen and early teen carriers! Quit touching everything with germy hands!

  • ****Loss mentioned****

Ok, this is a WWYD question. My baby shower is tomorrow, my best friend since we were 7 was obviously invited. Well three weeks ago she had a MC at 10 weeks, and so I didn't bring up the baby shower or anything baby related at all. This morning she texts me saying she wants to come, but she's not sure how she's going to handle it. So I told her that I wouldn't be upset if she didn't come, because obviously her feelings are important to me and I'd want her to be comfortable. She as of this point has said she's coming. My mom knows the situation and will be able to keep an eye on her if she needs anything but what would you do to make her feel as comfortable as possible without making her feel like she's being singled out? I haven't seen her in almost two years and I'm so happy to see her, I just wish it were under better circumstances.

  • @MegEL85‌ the only people who know the situation are my mom, my husband and myself, I just gave my mom a heads up so if she needs to leave that won't be an issue, I've just never been in a situation like this before, and since she's one of my oldest and closest friends I want to do everything I can to take her feelings into consideration you know?

The nurse called me and said some tests they did showed I was rubella negative. I had all my immunizations so I am wondering why? She didn't explain and said my doctor will explain next week and basically I would just need the shot in the hospital. Anyone ever experienced this?
I'm the same way. I have to have the shot while I'm in the hospital since I showed no immunity to it now.

Yes. That came up in my blood work at the beginning of my pregnancy and they gave me the shot, along with Tdap in the hospital. No biggie. It just means (I believe) that you don't have as many antibodies against it that you need the shot again.

I am! I googled and it said each Larabar has about 1/4 cup of fruit... so then I looked up how many dates are in 1/4 cup and it appears to be right about 5-6. So... if dates are the only fruit in your bar (like the Cashew Cookie), it seems like 1 will be sufficient.
I was going broke eating a Lara bar every day so I broke down and just bought lots of dates at Costco.  I think I'm going to make my own date bars. And still eat some Lara bars since dates are kind of weird.
I decided to make my own Larabars - super easy! If you're buying all Whole Foods/organic dried fruit it can be pricey, but, as the article suggests, you can always hit up the bulk bins at less costly stores. The recipe: https://leitesculinaria.com/88638/recipes-homemade-larabars.html
