This may be WAY too early for some (or most) of you, but I'm curious to hear everyone theme. Are you doing it the same theme as your nursery AND if you aren't going with a theme at all, what are you planning? Love to hear ideas
I haven't thought at all about a theme for a nursery OR for the shower. I'm not really too much into themed stuff, honestly. BUT, my in-laws will be having a shower for us probably in August sometime at our new house that we are moving to in a month (YAY!!!) and it's going to pretty low-key. Everyone is moving this year and on a limited budget so we are just going to do a cookout. It'll be a couples' shower. I guess one of my UO's is that I actually like little shower games (but NOT the one where they melt the candy bar in a diaper, that's DISGUSTING) so we may play a few of those. That's all I got so far!
ETA, I agree with PP's about not throwing your own shower. So, I guess if my MIL decides she wants a theme, we'll have a theme. I have a pretty whatever attitude toward this type of stuff, so I'm happy with whatever, as long as we don't play the fake-poop candy bar melted game.
I will end up letting my cousin who is throwing my shower choose a theme if she wants. Otherwise I am ok if it is just gender related (either pink or blue). And as for our nursery we haven't decided on anything for our nursery and won't decide until we know the gender.
My mom and MIL are planning my shower. All I know is the date and location and that it will be snacks/finger foods and not a meal. :-D Other than that, I know nothing.
You don't plan or throw your own shower. Someone else (friend, aunt, etc.) throws you a shower.
lizgrace03FhSTAR81 Correct...I'm not, my mother & 4 best friends are and they're keeping me in the loop of what's being planned, but it's all up to them!
The shower doesn't have to match the nursery. DS's nursery is green & light blue with woodland animals. My shower was red & navy blue with boats and sea creatures, it was super cute!
Not having one. Last time my shower didn't really have a theme - perhaps books? (Because people brought a book to be entered into a raffle). So no, the shower didn't match the nursery.
No shower for me as this is my 3rd. Our nursery is a jungle theme. I had 2 showers for my 1st child. My mom is not big into themes. She had plates and napkins and stuff with "Sweet pea" on them and it was a traditional shower at her house with games and all that. My MIL is more into themes. She also threw a traditional shower at her house. The theme was Noah's Ark with paper products, decorations, an ark cake, and animal cookies. She even gave us a little people Noah's ark toy as a gift. Personally I don't really care about themes.
Not sure. My shower won't be until after the baby is born so it's a loooong way off. My mom and sister will be the ones planning it so I can imagine it will be something fantastic

So, you got your way after all!! =D>
I am sure that MommaNachoLover will incorporate something to make sure it's substantial enough for the meal that people will surely be expecting.

From what you've said about her, I'm sure there will be MANY snacks. But, at least you'll have nacho dip etc.!!
My mom and aunts are doing one and my MIL and SIL are doing another. They live across the country from each other. I asked my mil if she'd be willing to do a co-Ed shower and the LOOK I got was hilarious. "People do that!?!"
I asked because I don't know many people here but my DH does and would love to have his friends included. It is his family and friends who live out here. When they threw me a wedding shower I was so uncomfortable. I felt like an outsider in a room of my mil's friends and relatives. I don't want to go there again
I have no idea. I'm sure I'll have a shower, but no one has said anything to me yet...probably because only immediate family and our very close friends know. Maybe once we get our NT results and we're more comfortable talking about plans it'll come up. I'm hoping for a book theme, but want no part in planning. Just let me know where to go and when and promise me cake!

We did a co-ed shower for our wedding too. We called it a "couples shower," I guess that sounds more official or fancy or whatever, but it wasn't all couples who came. Two of my best friends are gay men, so it goes without question that they were invited, and really all of our friends are kind of a big group--it would feel weird without the guys. That's just us--I've been to some women-only showers that were lots of fun too.
@lizgrace03 It makes sense to me! We'll see though. I think mil likes having an event just for her friends even though it is a shower for someone else. I expect she'd rather not have me invite anyone (like my wedding shower) but hopefully she will surprise me. I know I don't have to have a shower if she won't do co-Ed but she loves having her party and I don't want to be rude/ ungrateful particularly since we are planning on moving back to my homeland soonish
My mom and aunt maybe a cousin will host mine. Most of the planning will be on their end, but I will pick out some things (invitations & maybe the food/cake). I also hate games, I think they're corny. I only allowed one game at my bridal shower. Just to clarify I'm not a bridezilla or pregzilla, it's just my opinion.

I tried to throw my own shower but my friends took it over. Having said that, they are including me in the planning because they know I love to plan things. I had moved out of state the month before we conceived and so I knew none of my nonexistent friends here would throw me one and I wanted to go back and celebrate with the friends that are like family to me. Maybe my situation is unique, maybe people think I am tacky for trying to plan something to celebrate with those I love and not ASK someone to do it for me. Once my friends learned I was planning to fly up, they promptly took over.
They agreed to a theme I had thought of, but again my situation may be unique. My mother passed quite suddenly a little over a year ago to a brain tumor and we always had "You are My Sunshine" as a special song for us. So the shower will be themed that and I will have a framed picture of her there. The rest is up to them.
Don't care about a theme but told my MIL tonight that I'd like to have it at my home, I don't know of that's taboo but we will hopefully be done building and moving in by late summer so I kinda want a reason to have everyone over!
I know my mom and sister will throw one and my mother-in-law will throw one in my husband's home state where all his family currently lives. I guess they will have themes if the ladies choose to do them? I'm not picky...
I have no idea. My sister already told me that she plans to throw me a shower. I'm sure my mom will help her. They both always have really cute ideas for things so I probably won't even ask what they're planning, and instead just enjoy the surprise. If they want my input, I'll give it, but either way, I'm just really grateful that I'll be getting one since I know it's not a requirement, but a gift to have a shower.
ETA: argh...I hope that didn't come across as snarky...things never translate right on the internet. I'm definitely not making judgements/comments on anyone planning their own showers. I truly just meant that I am grateful to my sister.
This is #2 for me, so no shower this time. But for DS, I was team green and had 2 showers. My mom's shower was a sweet pea theme and my MIL's shower didn't really have a theme, slightly jungle (invites and favors only). They picked the themes, not me, and it had nothing to do with DS's nursery. His nursery is pretty neutral and theme-less, I'm not really into that.
My friend and my sisters will be throwing mine. I honestly pretty much have everything I need for a baby. A lot of friends have been giving me their baby stuff. Crib bedding, bouncies, strollers, car seats, clothes, ect. I would prefer to have a diaper baby shower.... But I am still going to register! The baby will be sleeping in my room. The theme in my room is pink and green. Hoping it's a girl because my poor little boy will be surrounded by girl stuff!
This is my first and my SIL has offered to throw me a shower. It's going to be in July, which is early, but that's the only time I'll be back to visit family (which lives over a thousand miles away). She suggested a "gift card" party so I won't have to worry about how to get stuff back, but I feel like that's just asking for money and it's not as fun, so I think it will be a traditional shower and I'll pack what I can and send what I can't.
Well my friend is throwing my shower for me. Since I wanted a sports theme for my wedding shower (my mom said I should do a different theme for my wedding shower) We are gonna have a sports theme were there will be burgers, wings, nachos, cheese fries (food you eat for sporting events mostly) and everyone will be encourged to wear their favorite teams appearl. The plan so far (since we are in Indiana and i'm an Indiana sports team fan) is if it's a Boy it will be Colts theme and if it's a girl it will be Indiana Fever themed. I'm pretty excited for it, not sure yet what the theme for the nursery will be.
We are moving around 24 weeks so I may have an early one with our friends here. Someone mentioned it early on, and I haven't heard anything since so it may or may not happen.
My sisters will probably/definitely throw one once we move. I'm not particular about what it might be -- theme or no theme, games or no games. Although all pink or blue might bother me….which is why we're likely not telling the sex, even though we're finding out.

No shower for us. second baby. So happy too! Had three showers for our first what a headache. Not to sound ungrateful lol they were wonderful, but i felt one was enough. No real themes, but one of the showers was sock monkey themed i guess. Very cute.

I really don't know if I'm getting a shower. I only have three female friends where I live and am not particularly close to anyone else. I suppose my sister and mom might have one for me with the family (I live about an hour away). I'm not particularly close to the extended family, but they seem to be getting all excited about the whole "it's twins!" thing so maybe they'll come just to see how freakishly huge I've gotten?
Meh. Either way, I'll be happy with whatever is thrown for me (if anything) and have nothing really to compare it to since my fertility struggles had me avoiding baby showers like the plague before.

TTC since 2011
Aug. - Sept. 2013 - dIUIs = BFNs
January 2014 - IVF = 3 freezer babies
March 2014 - FET of AA and AB blast = BFP! Twins!
Nov. 7, 2014 - Wilhelmina "Willa" Suzanne (4lb 14oz) and Ari Jose (6lb 4oz) were born via CS
I definitely am going to have a shower because the grandparents on both sides feel that this pregnancy is a totally different experience because we are having twins and they also believe we will need a lot of help which is true because our son is only going to be 1 when they are born and he will still need his crib and a lot of other things.
I thought of lots of themes but not knowing the sex makes it very difficult lol. I thought of bows and beaux which could be bows and mustaches as a theme if it is a boy and girl and I thought of Sugar and Spice for twin girls and I also liked Noah's Ark (two by two), I really didn't think of any all boy themes because I'm praying that at least 1 is my baby girl! I didn't plan my last shower but I did tell my sister the colors and theme but it was a nice surprise to see what a great job they did with decorating etc. They really outdid themselves!
I don't think the shower will match the theme. My son's room was Forrest friends and my shower was "Ahoy It's a boy" (Sailor themed) It was totally awesome and different because we used Red Navy and White and I wore a captain hat and my shower hosts wore t-shirts with anchors on it and plain white sailor hats. I totally hate the typical pale pink and light blue shower colors. So boring and I'm a creative, unique fashionista lol at least I'd like to think so haha.

I LOVE all of this!
My nursery is Nursery Rhymes and it'll be held in the middle of October. Since my husband and I love Halloween my Mom & best friends thought they could mesh the two together. They're decorating and getting everything together but keeping me involved with ideas and planning. It's been so fun! As of now we've decided that my cake will have a little goblin humpty dumpty, three blind mice zombies, and a mother goose witch lol. We're going more cartoon Halloween than actual gory. They're going to encourage people to dress in costume or their best Halloween spirited outfits. My centerpieces are going to be trees with cradle/babies in them (rock a bye baby) AND little pumpkins that are decorated to have little baby faces and a pacifier plugged in their little pumpkin pie hole. I'm SO EXCITED!
