Whirlwind Wednesday

Re: Whirlwind Wednesday

  • I was at a health fair this morning. Some a-hole calculated my BMI and body fat percentage, told me I was "borderline unhealthy" and that I should try doing some cardio. I wanted to punch her small, smug self and say, "How about running? Is 6 miles far enough for you, punk?"

I just thought his comment about the other side of the dirt put a few things in perspective. Not that you can't complain. I think complaining can be healthy in a way but there's a fine line between too much of it and then really overboard.

It kind of clicked for me. I'm complaining about the rain yet I'm still alive. I have my health, a trusty car, a warm home, loving DH and a beautiful son. I still complain and will continue but in that moment the rain seemed so small.

@miss50 well we were going to get a new roof then we added it all up and I almost died between the tear off, roof, gutters, soffit, faschia. So we're going to do the gutters (they are awful) and soffit, faschia this year and the roof next year. Our house is a very pale yellow brick with maroon shutters so I was thinking of more of a light brown color with some variation. The good news is now I don't have to decide until next year! :)

Depends what for.  We run them for all allied health programs here...the students get their results in 24 hours, but ours take at least double that.

I contacted an owner on VRBO yesterday asking if they will give us a discount for a house over Memorial Day weekend. He has multiple properties still available so I know they will not all be rented within this week. I will be really disappointed if he doesn't offer me a discount.

  • I love people watching, sometimes when we are out, I make up their conversations by, 'lip reading' which is hilarious, because I am as blind as a bat.

My best friend has severe hearing loss and can read lips. I always say it's an awesome party trick to have up her sleeve.

I'm jealous.  I really want a weekend getaway, but we're not spending any extra $ during the building a new house phase.  So I must live vicariously through everyone else...

So...Where are you headed?  To a beach?

Posts like this make my roll my eyes, hardcore, probably, well, bc I'm a bitch. This is from a local moms FB page:

"ISO local pre-school recommendations. I want a structured learning environment, not a daycare setting where moms drop their kids off so they can have their own time. My daughter is quite advanced for her age (2.5) and meets most standards for kindergarten prerequisites. Therefore she would do well being immersed in an educational setting. While I don't mind a church location, I would much prefer there be no religious infiltration."

    1) My kids are in daycare, but it's certainly not so I can "have my own time."
    2) Our daycare IS structured.
    3) Your kid is likely not as advanced as you think.
    4) I'm not even sure I'm up on what the kindergarten pre-reqs are, and DS goes in 2015.
Yeah, post sounds very judgy and from someone who hasn't researched a lot of "daycares".

Our daycare is very structured (which includes time for "free-choice activities" which is necessary at a young age) and is very much a learning environment.

And my kids aren't in daycare so that I can have "free-time."  Though I've been known to take a vacation day and leave my kids in daycare for the day.  MOTY!

I looked up our pre-reqs awhile back. James met almost all of them before turning 3. It does not mean your kid is advanced.

I can see where she was going with her request, but she worded it terribly.

Are you working for Uline?!  They're the only ones I can think of that have the no pants/hose required rule!

I believe Uline also has a no nail polish rule, which I find very strange.

Don't be jealous. We are going to a friend's wedding reception in Austin and I'm sure to be left alone with the kids for a good portion of our trip since it is DH's best friend. I am still debating on a hotel with a pool or a house so we have more room. I don't think I want to deal with the pool by myself so I'm leaning towards getting a house if the price is right.

Two of the directors are out of the office, so the other woman in my office thinks we should "take advantage" and get all of the projects done that SHE has been wanting to do for years.

Today's project? Transferring data for nearly 800 contracts from one Access database to another that she created.  She "imported" the original data, which somehow only applies to 2 of the fields in the new database.

She thinks Microsoft Access is awesome, and new. It's not.  It's not either of those things.  This is ridiculous.

We got a new admin last year who thought she'd revolutionize all of our databases and create them in Access.  Not a day goes by where I don't swear at it or have a fit because of how shitty it is when searching for information on a particular student.

Seriously, Access is garbage. Andplusalso?  Our boss fucking hates Access.  So I am interested to see his reaction when he returns, and all of our records are in one giant Access database.

  • @KellerPrag, my DH likes when I just pan fry or grill up the chicken breasts with seasoning or marinade, and then make some pasta with vegetables and a light sauce.  I'll either make a brown butter balsamic sauce, or a lemony olive oil sauce, depending on what veggies are in there..  Monday we had chicken, yellow squash, broccoli pasta. :-)  I make things like that at least once a week because it makes for good leftovers.

I like to dice bell pepper and onion, stir into cream cheese with salad seasoning (mccormick's), and make "stuffed" chicken. I butterfly the breast, George foreman it, then sandwich the filling in between and bake for 10 min to heat the cream cheese. I really like it, but my stan
Holy crap this sounds delicious. I have to see if my George Foreman still works. If not I have a stovetop grill thingy that may work. What temp do you bake at?

Mine are bone in, too, but I was hoping I'd be able to use THT's method anyway. If not, roasting it shall be. :P

  • On a typical day I usually don't eat anything until after I put Colby down for his afternoon nap. Not sure why, I'm just not hungry and don't have time. On days that I work out ( I use the term "work out" loosely, I did a yoga class this morning and maybe burned 100 calories) I want to eat everything. I came home and had a salad with grilled chicken on top, then a bowl of Cheerios, and I'm thinking about having some cheese and crackers. Give me all the carbs!
