Nature vs Nurture

My closest mom friend and I were discussing this and was wondering what you ladies thought...

Do you think that your LO's personality traits are due to their genes, or how you've treated/raised them? I think it's a combination, but I'd be interested to hear of any anomalies - 2 laid back parents with a high strung LO or vice versa.

Hope you all had a wonderful Mother's Day!!

Re: Nature vs Nurture

  • My son is 11 and after raising him I completely believe so much of who you are has to do with genetics. I have had primary custody of my son since he was very little, which means he just sees his dad every other weekend. Despite being around me more, this child is exactly like his dad personality wise and even makes all the same facial expressions. It is crazy how much he is like his father.

  • I think it's both as well. Some days I look at my son when he is being crazy and think...you are just like me! And now that I can see a little more of his personality shine through as he grows it's neat to see how he is turning out and the way he acts.

    I think it is both.

I like to think most things are due to environment and how we are raised but I do think genetics plays a part.

My sons have some things in common with their father even though he has never been a big part of their life. (And hasn't even been present in any form for many years) I am just glad that environment plays a huge role because my sons are not turning out like their father. They are very sensitive and caring although my oldest has a harder time showing it.
