Trying to Get Pregnant

XP-Only God knows why...(Loss mentioned). Will you all have me back?

I know there are some who don't believe in God, but please bare with me.  I don't mean to offend anyone, but these are my views.  This is my way of coping with the loss of my angel.  Yesterday I started spotting and decided to call my doctor.  He thought there was no need to worry and for me to try and rest and relax until my next appointment on Friday.  This morning, I woke up to more spotting and decided I needed to go the ER.  Sure enough, we discovered I now have two angels watching over me.  My first was a chemical pregnancy and never really felt "real".  After hearing the heartbeat with this one, I had so much hope and dreams for this little guy.  Physically, I am not in pain.  Mentally, I never knew I could feel such a loss and such a void from just hearing a heartbeat.  I'm not exactly sure where we'll go from here, but my husband and I know God has a wonderful plan for us.  One day we'll experience the joy of having a baby and becoming parents.

As for now, I know there are some ladies on this board that have experienced repeated losses.  My husband and I don't really know what's going to happen next (I'll be calling my OB tomorrow to discuss options), but would like to hear about experience with repeated loss testing or what steps you all have taken.  Also, any advice on what to ask tomorrow would be great.

I'm sorry if this post seems like a jumbled mess, my mind is cloudy right now.

  • I'm so sorry for your loss.

A PP posted the link to the TTCAL RPL testing thread, and it does have a lot of good info about it. As far as doing the testing goes, that's going to be up to your OB and sometimes your insurance. Most OBs won't start it until after 3 losses with no live birth in between. Some only count losses after a sac can be detected, so CPs may or may not count (I absolutely believe they are losses, my doctor counts them as such, but some doctors do not). And some/most insurance companies won't start cover RPL testing until after 3 losses. Losses may also affect when you're able to be seen for testing down the road, some doctors re-set the clock with losses and some don't.

TW for this advice *******************Also, if you are having a D&C, your doctor may want to run some testing on the products of conception to get an idea of if there were chromosomal issues that might have caused the loss and if they can tell if it is something that is recurrent or a one-off thing. I would ask your doctor about this.

    Take care of yourself.

  • I'm very sorry for your loss. I've just gone through my second loss and had a D&C Friday. My doctor is going to send the products of conception (ugh, I hate that term!) for testing and also did some blood work on me. We'll get those results back in a couple weeks and go from there depending on the results.

  • I'm so sorry for your loss. I had a D&C last week. Physically I didn't think it was that bad. If you are nervous, you can request that they give you something in your IV to help you relax. The anesthesia is nothing to worry about and you won't remember a thing about the process. You might have some mild cramping after like a period. Emotionally, I think it's different for everyone. For me, I felt like I could really start the healing process after that. I'm still sad of course, but everyday seems a little better than the one before with a few bumps along the way. My T&Ps will be with you.

@cdubs85, my D&C experience was fairly easy.  It was my first general anesthetic as well which for a healthy young person is very safe.  The preop was a bit of waiting around in a gown.  My doc gave my cytotec preop to soften the cervix.  I did have a moderate amount of cramping with that and wished that I had a heating pad.  The initial check in person told me to take off everything but the gown but I was bleeding at that point so I kept my underwear on til the last minute.  They gave me a shot of versed to help me relax before going down to holding room.  I'm not sure it made a difference.  Then I saw anesthesia and they put in the IV and not too long after that they rolled the stretcher back to the room and I got on the OR table.  They gave me the IV anesthetic at that point and the next thing I know I was in recovery room.  I had no discomfort at that point.  I cried a bit because I remembered why I was there.  They then brought me back up to day surgery where my husband was and offered me something to drink.  I then had to pee before I could go home and there was some bleeding.  I then put on my clothes with a pad  I brought from home.  I would recommend that because the ones at the hospital are huge.
We went home and I was able to eat lunch without any nausea (though some people get nausea after anesthesia).  I had very mild cramping (much less than the cytotec preop) which I took the prescription aleve and that relieved it.  I bled for about a week afterward but nothing heavy.  Physically the experience wasn't bad at all so try not to stress.  If you have any other questions please ask here or PM.  Other people also have written out there experiences on the miscarriage board.

  • I'm so sorry for your loss.

I believe the same thing you do.  Although a miscarriage sucks - I believe it happens for a reason....just like everything.  It does give me comfort and I put my faith in God and trust him.

Anyways - I also had 2 losses.  I did not go through any testing.  My body was still whacky off of birth control, so I just gave it the 3 months and went on TTC.  The 3rd time was the charm for me.
