Wallpaper removal-vent

We started preparing for our nursery last week. The room was previously a nursery with a border and wallpaper below the chair rail.  The border was super easy to take down using the steamer.  The wall paper below the chair rail is a different story.  We scored it and using the steamer, it is still really difficult to get off, and leaves the backing on a lot of the wall.  Additionally, some of the paste must have been super strong, because when we took off the wallpaper, the paint came off too so now we see drywall.

This project is taking forever and thankfully we have time, but anyone else have to go through this pain for their nursery?  For such a tiny room, it will probably take us a month to get the room in order.  We have the paint picked out and the nursery furniture is arriving today, which we will store in an other bedroom until we are done.

We had a bathroom like that at the previous house. Involved a lot of patching, retexturing & primer then paint. The previous owner had painted over the wall paper with some weird multilayered faux finish plus a glaze. Made removal a pain!

At least you have the time. Just in case though, LO won't mind if his/her room isn't finished until after he or she arrives so don't let yourself get anxious about it.

I removed wallpaper in a kitchen and found it pretty easy to tear the top layer (water resistant) off and then get the backing pretty wet with a sponge and use a wide scraper to get the backing off.

oh, we let a wet rag sit on the spot for a little bit & used a 3 in one putty knife to scrape with. The little hooked part worked wonders as getting under the layers & seperating paper from wall.

Also try using liquid fabric softener to remove it. We had a bathroom in our old house that was a PITA to get rid of the wallpaper, but part of the problem was the original homeowner did it directly on the drywall without priming it. We made sure in our selection for our current house that there was no wallpaper. Never again.

We moved into our house a year ago.  Every single room was wallpapered in hideous 1980s styles.  We're still working on painting and patching walls.

I saw a commercial for fabric softener and it suggested using a mixture of water and fabric softener.  We will give that a try this weekend.  It's the never ending project, but it will eventually get done.  Thanks for the tips.

Our kitchen and bathrooms had it...that wallpaper is the pits! We just sprayed the mixture of 1/2 warm water and 1/2 white vinegar on an area 6-7 times and it would peel right off or continue to soak it and use a putty scraper. Good luck!
