My coworker just showed me her grandmother's Nutella recipe, and it made me so happy I decided to share it with internets strangers. It's GF! All you fools who hate Nutella can step to the left.
8 eggs
2 cups powdered sugar
250g room temp butter (she's Belrussian, that's a 1/2lb)
2-3 cups ground walnuts
2-4 tbs cocoa powder + 200-250g (see above) nutella
1 tsp vanilla
3 tsp sugar
1/2 juiced lemon
Separate yolks from whites, keeping both. Cream butter and powered sugar, slowly add yolks one at a time, mixing well. Add cocoa, vanilla and nutella; keep mixing. Save about a cup for the icing.
In another bowl beat egg whites into snow (not entirely sure how far to take this, doesn't sound like soft peaks yet). Beat in sugar until mixture becomes creamy. Carefully fold into nutella mixure by hand, stir in lemon juice and nuts.
Separate into 2 9" cake pans, bake at 375* for ~20 minutes. Let cool, ice, and eat all the cake.
