How often are you giving Tylenol?

I gave DD Tylenol for teething yesterday but I am trying to keep it to a max of twice a day. What did you do for your baby.
She has a temperature.

Re: How often are you giving Tylenol?

  • If she's uncomfortable or not able to sleep. Or if she's been fussy for more than 25 minutes or so. I give it every 4 hours. I was worried about frequency whe. I was a ftm, but seriously no one wins if baby is in pain. Give it as needed.

  • I have only given LO Tylenol 3 times total.  If he is feverish, we do a cold rag first for a bit to see if it breaks the fever.  If not then I will give Tylenol.  One dose does the trick for him every time though.

  • I prefer motrin. You can dose every 8 hours.

  • DS only need Tylenol for one cold.  I just watched for the fussiness to come back then gave him another dose, it worked out to about 6 hours between doses.

If she has a fever, i would just give it to her to keep it down and repeat if it goes back up. I don't mess around with fevers. I also just started using Motrin and it seems to work better. Do you use amber beads? I swear they help!

We do 1.875ml she's 19lbs 6oz. I only give it to her if she's super fussy or a fever.. It lasts a while so if she's having a rough day I only need to use it 2x

  • We didn't need much for his bottom 2 just 2 times at night before bed. But the top ones he's was soooo upset. They look so much bigger to so I see why. It took about 4 days for them to cut through and we gave it every 4-8 hours.

  • @has615‌ it looks like she is getting one on the top. Today is the 3rd day.

  • If she has a real fever (over 100.4), it is probably a bug, not just teething.

That said, we use Motrin now--definitely more comfortable with that over Tylenol.

For a fever I would totally give Tylenol every 4 hours as needed. Once the 4 hour mark hits if there is no fever and LO isn't fussy we don't give it. Then if later on he seems to need it then we will do it again. DS just cut a tooth right after having a viral infection so we had it all at once. Since the tooth has popped through it seems like things have calmed way down. Tylenol was also the only thing that would help him go to sleep while he was trying to cut that tooth.

Aw poor babies.  Hudson got both bottom at the same time and both tops at the same time.  The tops really do look very painful, I know if I was having bad tooth pain I wouldn't be able to sleep so def give her some 30 minutes before bedtime the next few nights so it has time to work.

  • DS is totally a slacker, as we have no teeth yet and I've not given Tylenol or Motrin to him ever.

I assume I'll "know" when he needs it??

We've done Motrin a few times. Usually just before bed when he is super cranky and seems in pain to the point he can't sleep. I try to avoid it unless absolutely necessary but I also don't want him in pain...so it's hard to tell sometimes.

  • We've been cutting I think the top teeth this week since Monday at 2 am. I was using Tylenol but it wasn't helping, he was screaming bloody murder. I got Motrin & it's helping a lot better but he hates it. I try to wait as long as I can but by the 8 hour mark he's screaming again.

Just in case y'all didn't know, a fever is the body's way of fighting infection. A fever is actually a good thing. If LO isn't uncomfortable, let the fever do it's job!

Yeah I know fever is an indicator of the body fighting an infection .. I was posing the question more because she had been in a lot of pain and discomfort. She only had a temperature part of the day.
