July 2013 Moms

intro/pedi advice question

Hi ya'all. i have a 9.5month old dd and yesterday was her 9month check up. the receptionist made a mistake at our last appt and made her appt with a different pedi than who she normally see's.

he was happy to hear she has met all of her milestones (crawls well, pulls to stand, just started creeping, knows what 'no' is, responds to her name.. etc) and then he asked about her sleeping patterns. i told him that she still wakes 2-3 times to nurse, and then SO proceeds to tell him that we co-sleep and that he thinks that ourLO is just a light sleeper. the pedi then tells us me that i shoudnt nurse her at night anymore because she has two teeth now and he is worried about tooth decay. so he said just brush her teeth after her bedtime feeding and then just rub her back anytine she wakes up during the night.. he also told us to break her of sleeping with us now.. and basically said to let her CIO, go in and check on her but don't turn on the light or pick her up.

now.. I'm all for her sleeping in her crib, and out of our bed.. its the stopping nursing during the night I'm more conserned about. have any of your pedi's told you to do this? I'm not really sure if its possible, lo loves to comfort suck so i think its that more than anything.. she has never sttn. can this affect her adult teeth? have any of you been told anything simular? Advice? Success stories? Thanks in advance girls!

Re: intro/pedi advice question

  • Hello. We recently stopped feeding in the MOTN per the advice of our pedi. I thought it was going to be a problem, but LO really doesn't seem to miss it.
  • Loading the player...
  • My pedi has the same views as yours and I choose to ignore those tidbits of advice. My LO is just now getting his first 2 teeth and he's still sometimes getting a bottle at night, if he wants it. Also, he sleeps with me and probably will for the foreseeable future.

    Hi.
  • @SummerBebe47‌ how did you do it? Gently wean her or cold turkey? How many times was your lo waking up? What did you do instead of nursing to get them back to sleep? Thanks !!

@Audrey1787‌ thank you ill def read that! Yeah..i never really thought of listening to the pedi regarding bfing. especially since he is not her normal pedi. the regular doc never even asked about motn feedings.. i never minded bed-sharing or motn feedings but lately i think she isn't waking because she's hungry but just for comfort and if this is the case then i wouldn't mind weaning her. it will be easier now then months down the road and we plan ttc in a year or so and id definitely like her to sttn and in her own room by then. thanks for the advice!
  • @Laurendag‌ uhm, hi my names krystal and my dd was born 7/22/13 I've been reading these boards for a while but just recently had a few questions of my own.. idk what else you want to know.

@Asbromle‌ .. good to know I'm not alone! I think for the most part ill be ignoring this advice as well.
  • Actually, @Chunkymonkeylvr‌ i just replied to the last person who said i never intro'd and said my name is krystal and that i have a daughter who was born 7/22/13. What else would you like to know? Is that not an intro?
  • I'm not lying. you can read the boards without joining. I've been reading since i found this site when i was pregnant. I'm going to ignor your snarky "try again" comment.
  • @Meimsx‌ thank you for the thoughtful answer. i was not aware of proper "intro etiquette" (i didn't spend much time reading THOSE posts, just the ones i thought would apply to me and my lo.)i didn't mean to step on any toes.
  • You're fine. :) live and learn. Look at mermos list. Just answer down the line and we'll forget all about your faux pas.

  • I thought this was a board where moms can ask questions and advice from other moms. Why are you trying to pick me apart? I realized that I didn't introduce myself properly and tried to fix it so you girls would feel comfortable. I wouldn't waste my time replying to a post, only to point out incorrect grammar.

I was nice.. I'm not mean..unless you ask the bow lady. She may say otherwise.

Sorry I forgot to tag @Chunkymonkeylvr‌ in that last post. You're right, you were nice. I was replying to when you said I was being rude to @Chunkymonkeylvr‌, which I don't think I was.

It's a little rough for newbs around here, especially if you don't 'follow the forum etiquette' (which, by the way, seem to change on a weekly basis). Now that you've intro'd, just make sure you're giving back to the community. I suggest checking out the daily spam thread (titled, PS I Love Spam, today) and start there. And maybe HDBD if you don't mind sharing pics of Melody.

The July 2013 mamas are awesome, really. Learn and grow with us. :)

    HDBD?

  • Welcome! @mellysmommy‌
My pedi hasn't mentioned anything about no MOTN feedings so I can't share and advice there. Looking forward to getting to know you.
