Trying to Get Pregnant

What charts do you use?

I have fertility friend, but I can't quite figure out if I'm reading it right....it doesn't match up with their "key" at all.... I also have an app on my phone called Ovia and I love it! It tells me what cycle day I'm on, a "fertility score", sends an alert to take a pregnancy test, and how long till my "fertile window". Along with all the charting too. So I'm curious what everyone else uses!

  • I have used Fertility Friend since '09. I love it!

  • I use FF.  I have not had trouble with their key.  :)  There is a legend for the colors and everything.  I'm not familiar with Ovia, but I'd think as long as it works for you and you can track your temps, CM, OPKs, etc. then go with it.

For the time being, I have only been charting temps. They just seem to be all over the place. I'm not sure what's going on, if it's actual my temps, or me reading it.

FF here.  Also, it can't tell you how long til your fertile window, but it can estimate, which FF does as well.  FF also tells estimates your fertility, based on signs you put in.

You could link your FF chart and ask questions here if you are confused.

Also, it sounds like you haven't taken the FF tutorials - those are great and will answer most of your questions, but we can help fill in the gaps.

  • I've attached what my chart looks like.......obviously I'm off to a slow start but I'm really working on temping first thing in the morning now :)

Do you take your temps around the same time every morning? My chart looked crazy the first month I temped because I was taking temps at different times. Once I set an alarm to take my temps at the same time each day, my charts looked less crazy.

FF isn't giving you anything, because you have given it very little to work with.

Keep temping, consistently, and it will give you an accurate reading.
That's what I wondered. I will just keep temping everyday and first thing to give it more to work with:)

    Thanks everyone!

  • I've given other charts a shot just to see how they work and none of them seem to confirm O like FF.  Looks like you have a lot of open circles and may need to work on being more consistent.  I would also recommend adding OPKs since temping will only confirm O.
  • Ditto what the other ladies said. I've used FF since 2010 & never had the desire to find an alternative.

  • What OPKs would you recommend? Or should I start that as a new post?

    Thanks again everyone!

    I like fertility friend.

I tried Ovia and it was a little too optimistic for me. Seriously. I put in on like 6dpo that I was emotional. It said "maybe there's a little baby inside you making you fell emotional, you never know!" Nope. Just nope.

Jesus Christ.  That is the worst thing I have ever read.  I would punch Ovia right in the face.

Does Ovia confirm an ovulation day for you?  That's the whole point of temping.  I feel like I've seen Ovia charts in the past and they never seem to have crosshairs.  If that's true, then Ovia is useless.  It's guessing at fertile days and there are no hard stats.

FertilityFriend - while less "pretty" - tells you cycle day, ovulation day, days post ovulation.  It predicts based on past charts what your fertile days *could* be and when your period *should*  be.  It's very useful.  Don't be swayed by a pretty face - if Ovia doesn't confirm ovulation for you, it's worthless.

Mine did not confirm ovulation like fertility friend did. I was using them both at the same time to see which one I liked better. FF is SO much better!

Your chart gives me anxiety.  When you say you're working on temping first thing in the morning, do you mean that you are temping later in the day like after you get out of bed?

(sorry if this sounds like a stupid question!)

  • I use FF. When I first started temping I used TCOYF and added FF after a few months. I like both but I got tired of keeping up both charts so now I only use FF.

  • I use fertility friend and like it.  It's a little easier to get the hang of on the actual website initially, but now I pretty much exclusively use the app.

As for your OPK question, I haven't used any, but the question gets asked fairly regularly so if you do a search you will find other discussions out there with good input.

  • Ovia is useless. The app is "pretty" but the chart doesn't even have graph lines for different temperatures. It's so so pointless and annoying.

I started out using FF and Kindara. Kindara makes a much more accurate graph than Ovia, and is a little "prettier" than FF, but it doesn't give you crosshairs to confirm O. So, I've converted to FF full time.
