3rd Trimester

Contractions Question

So I've been feeling BH for a few weeks now. I'm 36 weeks (my ticker is wrong-oops).

Over the weekend I was in the hospital for "unexplainable" high blood pressure that was causing me to pass out. When they would monitor me, I was having regular contractions that I couldn't feel every 4-6 minutes. The docs said that if they weren't strong enough to feel they weren't doing me any good. However, I do feel about 6-10 really good, can't really talk through contractions every day. I can palpate the other contractions though.

I don't have complete faith in these doctors (long story), but was wondering if any of you had experienced this? If so, how long did this last before you were actually in labor? I know it's different for everyone and I'm not trying to start labor right now :)

PS: Long time lurker, I used to post much more on the June 2014 board but there seemed to be too much drama for my taste :)

  • Hey June BMB-ers! I wasn't trying to start any drama...it's been months since I posted there just because of personal preference. Drama may have been the wrong word to use and for that I apologize. I think I was just feeling like a lot of people were being "flamed" or whatever unnecessarily. I was not personally attacked/flamed or anything of the sort, but hormonal hannah (me) over here was upset by seeing it. Again-all personal preference. I know that a lot of you come over here too! So again, sorry! Wasn't trying to start anything.

    Thank you everyone that commented!

I'm going to get even more water on board and see what I can do doctor wise. Because of insurance I don't have a lot of choices in my area.

  • And FWIW June is a tame board.

  • For someone who claims not to like flaming and drama, you sure like creating it by calling it out.

But to answer your question, I had a blood pressure spike at 36 weeks and went in for observation. Had the same kind of contractions on the monitor. Was dehydrated and had a UTI. Continued to have contractions for the next 3 weeks. Labor started when my water was broken at the beginning of my induction at 39 weeks. So unless you get to 5-1-1, are in a ton of pain, or have other symptoms - chill out. No need to question your care providers about BH. You'll be continued to be monitored weekly.

  • June is the tamest board ever. Literally. Some days it feels like something scandalous would actually spice things up, bad as that might sound. Ugh, it really grinds my gears when June is called out because if you've ever spent more than 5 minutes on The Bump than you know June is the tamest of the tame. Blah. Drama Llama.

  • OMG!  This is why many don't frequent the message boards.  I was interested in your question OP and I was glad to read the responses from those who addressed it and shared their experiences.

    Thank you!
  • I'm sorry you passed out - how scary! Do you have other pre-e symptoms or this was just a fluke? I hope you're feeling better!

To your question, yes plenty of my BH/practice labor felt like the real deal, especially in the final month of pregnancy. Sometimes I was driving somewhere, had to pull over, have a few contractions, wait for them to pass, then go straight home. In the final 2 weeks before my daughter was born, I was up every night between 2-5am with at least half an hour, sometimes two hours, of painful, time-able contractions that I couldn't sleep through.

It's normal and you're 36 weeks so you don't have to worry about preterm labor anymore. I would try to use these "practice labor" BH as an opportunity to practice your relaxation exercises, so when labor really gets going, you'll be able to easily get yourself "in the zone" as they say.
