Shady Grove

I was wondering if anyone had anything to share about Shady Grove - either positive or negative.

I have an appointment next Friday for an initial consult.
Married on October 20, 2012.  Began trying in January 2013.
RE appointment & testing December 2013 - February 2014= Unexplained IF, possible endometriosis
IUI#1- March 22 (100mg clomid, 75 mg of Bravelle, Ovidrel trigger) = BFP!!!

Re: Shady Grove

  • Without SGF I wouldn't be pregnant today. They found the underlying cause of my infertility, fixed it and I'm 26 weeks today. Now don't get me wrong, it was a long journey, but once we got the medical issues taken care of we were good to go.

  • Congratulations!!!

I have an appointment with Dr. Kipersztok on December 20.  I'm nervous and anxious because I don't know what to expect.  Shady Grove is having a webinar tonight for newcomers on common myths and what to expect during the initial consultation.  My husband and I are looking forward to the webinar because we really do not know what to expect.

We went in blind! We had been married for three years without getting pregnant, so I just called and made an appt for a consult. We ended up with Dr. Eric Widra and I'm happy of the track and decisions that were made. I wish you luck and if you have any questions you can PM me if you want or we can continue to talk on here. The patients aren't very talkative with each other, either due to their situation or because it becomes so routine. That doesn't mean they are mean, I just found that in the DC and Rockville locations, everyone pretty much stayed to themselves or poked their head in a book. I :)

  • Dr. Kipersztok did my ET on 11/12/13 and I am currently 6 wks 6 days... we saw the heartbeat for the first time on Wednesday.  Even though my primary Dr. is Dr. Paulette Brown out of Fair Oaks, I give Dr. Kipersztok joint credit for my pregnancy!

Looking forward to busy days and sleepless nights effective 8/2/14!

  • Amy - thank you for sharing this news ... and CONGRATULATIONS!!!!

I'm a nervous wreck.  Shady Grove had a webinar last night for new patients, my husband and I attended.  I feel a little bit better of knowing what I might be able to expect but I am still overwhelmed.

  • I go to SG in the Baltimore area.  So far, I'm very impressed with the process.  It's like a super, well-oiled machine.  The RE is the greatest in terms of bedside manner, but my nurse is awesome and 95% of your contact is with a nurse (not always your assigned nurse).

I've had no problem getting appointments when I need them, phone calls always get returned, and my instructions are always very clear.

Good luck!  I hope you have a similar experience!

    @amyp523 congrats!!
    Ronniesgirl - good luck!

  • I have an appointment on the 27th of march in Bel air im nervous because i was seeing another speacialist who was only concerned with me getting to my ideal weight because im young so im nervous this dr. will also be less willing to get to work because of my age of 23 :/ any experience with age/being overweight?
  • Hi Kitten - I'm 34 and considered overweight, but not obese.  During my initial consultation we went over my medical history and my husbands history to make sure that there is not anything that can present a problem.  My doctor did not say anything about my weight, but it is something that I'm concerned about.  I've been eating healthy and exercising because I know that the more weight I lose, the better my chances are at getting pregnant.

The doctor will probably have you call when you start your next cycle for Day 3 bloodwork and an intervaginal ultrasound (while you're on your period - so mentally prepare yourself for this).  You'll probbably have an HSG too - so they can verify that your tubes are open and your uterus doesn't have any polyps, growths.

Overall I've been very pleased with Shady Grove.  Let me know if you have any more questions.

  • My husband and I went to SG Annandale and Dr Levens was amazing. Great bedside manner and took all the time we wanted to answer questions, etc. Monitoring appts are easily scheduled and they are usually on time as well as efficient. I am now 11 weeks (IVF) so I have graduated but am so thankful for SG.
  • I couldn't agree more about Dr. Levens - he is wonderful and truly seems to care. I had an IUI 12 data ago, so I am coming close to getting bloodwork to see if I'm pregnant!!!

Best of luck to you - so far my husband and I have loved Shady Grove and feel so blessed that they even exist - we certainly wouldn't be where we are without them.
  • Without SGF, I wouldn't have DD. My primary was Dr. Nair, but throughout my tx, I saw many of their doctors at the DC, Sibley, and Rockville locations.

I'd be happy to answer any questions over PM.

  • Went to both offices in DC an Rockville and honestly we were only impressed with their financial folks. We are a same sex couple however, and I think that had a great deal to do with our negative experience. That said, SG is huge and there are lots of Drs. to choose from. Good luck.
  • I go to shady grove Dr. Nair. They are amazing after 7 years it only took two iui's now I'm pregnant. I thought I would never see this
  • We really liked nurse Marci and Dr Browne
  • Im glad I found this post. Im thinking of going to the columbia office, but I keep reading the best reviews about Dr Katz from the GBMC location.
