This means that you have one uterine, normal pregnancy and one ectopic pregnancy. We were at Lowe's Saturday evening shopping for flowers, and the "gas" pains I had been feeling all day became so strong I started to faint as we were leaving. The ambulance came and took me to the hospital, and I kept swearing I probably just had a stomach virus. They checked on my baby and it looked great, but I had some "free fluid" in my abdomen, which meant I was bleeding. I was transferred to a larger local hospital and my RE met me there. The pain and pressure were so awful. My Fallopian tube ruptured from the ectopic pregnancy, and my RE performed surgery in the middle of the night to remove the ruptured tube and stop the bleeding. I had to have two units of blood as well.
The scary thing is the first hospital assumed I just had a ruptured cyst and were about to send me home. Luckily, they got a hold of my RE who said "Helloo? Female presents with abdominal pain has an ectopic until proven otherwise!" And he was right. If I hadn't it gone, I could have continued bleeding and died. It was so scary and I can't believe this all happened.
Apparently, the chance of this happening after IVF is 1 in 1,000.
Update: Just saw the baby this morning and he/she is measuring 8w5d, which is even a couple days bigger than it should be, with a heart rate if 168. My RE said everything looked great, thank god. Thank you all for your thoughts, prayers and support!
