Flu, supply suffering

Our oldest shared her flu germs with me. Yesterday I had a high fever and nausea/diarrhea, so I tried to eat and drink but it all went straight through. Today the fever and nausea are gone, but diarrhea is still there. I am nursing often, but he's frustrated because there's not lots of milk. I'm trying to force food and fluids as much as possible. Any tips??

Re: Flu, supply suffering

  • If you have a freezer stash you could dip into that, just make sure you pump to replace those feedings.

  • If your eating and drinking today, I bet you will see an increase in supply tomorrow. And I bet it will be back to normal within a couple days.

I have been so sick within the last few months (flu, pneumonia, cold, ugh!). I notice that while I am really sick (fever) I see my supply dip, but once I am better, it's back right where it use to be (I work Ft and pump while DS is at dc).

I am really religious about pumping or feeding every two hours when I am sick. I don't know how old your LO is. If LO is under 6 months, I would just keep switching sides. If LO is over 6 months, I would offer food if LO seems hungry.

My DS is 9 months, a favorite of his is yogurt :-)

  • Thanks y'all! I don't have a stash at all. I stay home and he only takes a bottle about once or twice a week. I am hanging in there! He is 6 months and yogurt has been our lifesaver the past 2 days!

It'll bounce back! I had a nasty stomach flu about a month ago. I didn't want to eat much for a couple days so I just made sure that I drank a ton and everything that I ate or drank was calorie dense. LO was frustrated for a couple days then I was back to being full. :) good luck
  • I would force fluids and Gatorade as PP suggested.  I would expect it to bounce back, but if not, try Mother's Milk Organic tea for starters...
