dropping a bottle?

Usually my LO drinks 4 8oz bottles a day, and we give her solids 2x a day. The pedi said we can go ahead and add another solid but we haven't yet. But LO has only been drinking about 3-4oz at 11am . I would rather her drink the entire thing, instead of adding another solid.

Is it normal for her to drop a bottle? I want to make sure she is getting the appropriate nutrients.

  • When is she eating solids?

  • 830 and 4. About two hours before and after a bottle (she eats every 4 hours usually) I just feel like she is so uninterested in formula now..

Even if your babe did the 3 8oz bottles and another half: she's still getting the 24oz minimum average. Plus your 2 solids. I wouldn't be worried.

  • Ha, I just reread my post. Glad you could decipher it with my mistakes! Not sure how my 8 became an "&c". Dang iPhone

I could be wrong here, but I was thinking that this would start happening for our babies over the next few months. Solids will gradually become a more important part of their diet and formula will gradually cut back. And they'll start having larger but fewer meals. I kind of thought that by the time they are one, they're at a normal three meals a day and formula is a much less important part of their diet. It sounds like this might be the start of all that. Or am I crazy and that's not how it works?

  • @lee81 I was thinking the same thing.. but then the "food before 1 is just for fun" made me second guess myself!

  • I think the food before one is just for fun is related to if they don't ingest it. If your dd is swallowing the food, she's getting those calories. My dd eats and then takes about half of a normal bottle, so I figured that's why your dd has cut herself down.

I know, right! Everything is making me second guess myself. All of a sudden there's two new posts where people are saying they're thinking of upping their baby's formula and I'm like, "oh shit DD has been getting the same amount of formula for months. Am I starving her?? How do I know if she should get more formula or more solids????" I keep thinking that the whole food before one thing is only part true because it has to be a gradual transition, right? It can't be like flipping a switch on their first birthday. Food is hard :-/
