How was the shower? Part 2

Re: How was the shower? Part 2

  • Had my shower yesterday and I am still recovering from the day. It started off rocky because my younger sister planned the whole thing, got overwhelmed and made me cry :/ After she apologized we went on with the day. My moms tiny house was stripped of all the furniture and set up with party tables and chairs. It felt like we were in the private party room of a restaurant. The food was great and everyone seemed to be having a great time. I LOVED it! It was a drama free afternoon and my friends and family were more generous than I had anticipated. I can't believe how well it went. At the end my husband came by with a gorgeous bouquet of roses and mingled with the ladies. He was so cute. Wish I could do it all over again...but def not for another 2 or 3 years hahaha.

@temurlang1 - She is, but I'm not sure that really has much to do with it. She had a really dysfunctional upbringing (although, her sister isn't like her at all, so I'm not sure you can blame that) and we're pretty sure she's suffering from a number of psychological disorders that aren't being treated properly. It doesn't help that lately DH has been working 80-90 hour work weeks and she feels even more abandoned than usual.

@SecondTimeinMSU - That sucks. I'd be upset she didn't apologize, too.

I'm sure it's not related at all. Most of my other Swedish relatives are very functional people. It's just a strange/funny coincidence that she and my mom sound dysfunctional in the same way. Unfortunately an event like a birth brings out all the drama.

  • Quick question -- for those of you who gave gifts to the shower hosts, did you do it at the shower, right after (privately), or later on some other day?

Trying to figure out etiquette... Thanks!

I got to the shower a little early and passed them out before all of the people arrived.  It worked out nicely.

Thank you! That sounds like a great idea. : )

I was thinking of arriving a little early anyway, so that I'm there when everyone else arrives (and now I feel super arrogant for having written that, haha.)
  • My shower was yesterday afternoon (no pics yet), and it went great! It was super casual, pretty small and we were given the most adorable clothes.

I had barely any knowledge if what it would be like or who would be there, so when I first walked in, I got the biggest surprise seeing my "2nd mom" there!! She's known me since I was a baby, and her daughter (who lives across the country so wasn't coming) is one of my best friends still. It meant the world to me that she'd drive 3 hours to get there!!

My mom and sister also drove down, but they stayed the night and we went to brunch today with DH. So sweet!

Everything went great at my Sprinkle, besides my mom totally spazzing in the beginning, then publicly announcing how many miscarriages we've had, how her sister is inept and stupid she is because she got lost on the way there even though my mom have her directions. Besides that it was great... Very thankful for all that were able to come and celebrate with us. Here are a couple pics of all the hardwork my SIL and BFF did for me.image
  • Sorry, not sure why it posted the same pic twice. Below is the pic it should have been.
  • @satrimm You look fantastic! Your shower was so beautiful, also!

  • My shower was a week ago, May 18. It was pretty small, only about 12-14 people from the 30 that RSVPed showed up, but I still got almost all the big stuff I needed. We had WAY too much cake, as my mother ordered a full sheet cake, and I made about 6 dozen mini cupcakes (didn't know there was going to end up being more cake than people!). The food was really good, and I can't really complain, but I still wish I could have invited ALL of my friends (i.e. my guy friends as well), but I couldn't because the person who got us the hall it was in threw a fit because I wanted guys at a baby shower. Oh well, I had my dad there, so I didn't really care! All in all, pretty decent! My child will never be naked, cold, or dirty, with all the clothes/blankets/washcloths he got!

  • My shower was last weekend although it was a very nice shower there is always something that maybe won't be right..... For one people didn't RSVP so we had way less people then we thought we would still a decent turn out. Also, people did not buy off of my registry they bought random things that I really have no use for....very frustrating! And last but not least my FIL ( we had a couples shower) called me fat....he does joke like that every now and then but totally inappropriate and did hurt my feelings. All in all it wasn't terrible there was a lot of things that I did enjoy.

I had three showers and they were just fantastic.
The first was thrown by two of my really good girlfriends for my friends and the they had a storybook theme.  The decorations were amazing.
The second was thrown by my soon to be sister-in-law and had a Royal Prince theme for mostly family.
The third was actually a Harry Potter theme thrown by 3 other girlfriends in a different circle, and this one was coed so my hubby could go to.
All three were really tasteful & well done.  I was really impressed and touched by how hard everyone worked to make the food, decorations & games really special.  It is so nice that people take time out of their lives to celebrate with us!

One weird/drama momen: being cornered by my mother-in-law who proceeded to tell me stories about what an awful husband/father my husband's dad is.  Oh, and her sister barging in the door to tell me about her account with diabetes and pregnancy- totally appropriate.  His family is weird.

All of my friends and my side of the family, however, is awesome- thank goodness!

I think we have a good mix of gifts from the registry, and creative ones from off. At first I felt a little self conscious opening gifts, but then I got really used to doing it!  I love presents.  Everyone at the showers was also so genuinely excited.  I loved my showers. I'm definitely going to have to return the favor for a few people someday!

Attaching photos from the three showers.  One has a cake that says "Welcome Little Prince"- so sweet!  and the last one is a Harry Potter diaper bag cake- increcible!

I need to vent before I lose my mind. As some may recall my MIL wanted to throw a shower for her side of the family this weekend because 37w3d is totally not too late for a shower. It was going to be the first time she and both her sisters had been in the same place in over a decade. They apparently got into a fight about who to invite and now one of the aunts and none of the cousins are coming. I found this out via snail mail from the aunt with a gift she sent. So it went from like 20ish people to 6. We had more people show up for a shower hosted by a meetup.com group we've only been to a couple of times. It's really bumming DH out and making him feel like his family doesn't care for him. Meanwhile his mother just called 5 mins ago to ask if theres anything she needed to bring tomorrow. He said "I dont know im not hosting the party". I'm not expecting a fun time tomorrow :(
@hampire Was it as bad as you thought?  Was there a miracle and everything turned out OK?
