I am just using a vintage dresser I bought at Goodwill for $10 (later found out that it was my friend's old dresser, small world!), and a changing pad.
I've had the dresser for 11 years, and it hasn't been used in a while.

This seems like the consensus on FB too. I was worried, though, that just the changing pad wouldn't be safe on top of a dresser but I think I will consider it because I think you're right, we will probably be changing him anywhere and everywhere.

We have the long dresser with the changing pad on top, as well. They usually come with screws so you can screw the changing pad in if you want to.
We picked up the IKEA changing table - we were going to go with the dresser, but it meant DH would be hunched over to a greater degree than with the taller changing table. It was super inexpensive, but sturdy with big shelves.
Another vote for pad on top of a dresser. I change dd on hers for almost every diaper change and it's been perfect. Like pp said, you can strap it to the dresser but honestly I never did because my hands are always on her so it's not like she's going anywhere.

Yup, we screwed the change pad to the back if the dresser. It never budged!

Same here. We got an ikea dresser and used the strap from the pad to screw it into the back. No issues and 2 small screw holes in the back of the dresser are worth my peace of mind that it isn't going anywhere.
We have an actual changing table for ds and it's open. I don't like how messy it looks, although, I like that it has an edge on all 4 sides. This baby will have an antique dresser with a pad on top, and her real dresser will be in her walk in closet. Both work, but I think a long dresser from IKEA would be ideal. The Hemnes one, to be exact.
We are using this from IKEA. I had a changing table last time and it was just not worth it this time around. I'll just some basket on top with a changing mat
We bought a crib and changing table/dresser combo from Walmart for DS. It came as a set and was around $150. It worked well for DS and still looks brand new for this baby. When DS moves into his new room, I'm buying a changing pad to put on a long dresser. DH is either going to make rails to attach to the top around it or just attach the pad to the top somehow. I always took DS up to his changing table for diaper changes. I cannot hunch over beds, couches, whatever, especially for the fifty million diaper changes you do in the beginning. The changing table was so much easier.
We are getting a crib from my SIL and instead of trying to find something to match, I found the TARVA dresser that can be painted/stained/lacquered to whatever color I want.
