TTC After a Loss

Vegas!

More AW (get over it). What do you like to do in Vegas? Next weekend I'm popping my Vegas cherry and heading to the city of sin. What should I be sure and see while I'm there. I have heard a week is a long time in Vegas so I'm hoping to get some insider tips from those who have been there. I do love to gamble and drink so I'm sure I'll have a good time.

All I really want to do is see Britney. DH refuses.

Where are you staying? We just got back from our second trip so I may have a few fun things.

We saw Cirque Love and really liked it. I do wish we would have seen a more "cirque" show but the music was great! We also did the linq (new "ferris" wheel). It's neat but not really worth the almost $55 for two. Madame Tussaud's, I believe that was in the Bellagio, was actually a lot of fun and they hand out $10 off admission coupons everywhere! The Mirage has a nice patio hookah bar, Rhumbar, that we have gone to both times to hang out. We went to Freemont St (old Vegas) this time and I know I may be in the minority but I really didn't like it. Other than that I would rather spend 90% of my time at the pool!

ETA- let me know if you have any questions and have a blast!! (If you see Britney I will be so super jealous, she was on break while we were there)

  • Living in Albuquerque Vegas is a easy drive so we make the trip every eight to twelve weeks! I would definitely see a Cirque show, check out the half price booth as same day tickets that haven't been sold are a great price!! Have a blast!

  • I want to see Britney SO bad!!! My husband said no... I also want to fly to Vegas JUST to see her... Maybe that's why... I second cirque shows!... The only "club" I went to was the bank in the bellagio... Which was pretty overrated to me. I say walk though/shop in ceasers palace.. It's just a pretty cool place with all the details and architecture :)

    Enjoy!

  • Cirque Love is awesome, definitely check that out if you can - even my husband liked it and he's not a fan of the Beatles.

Check out Mon Ami Gabi at Paris and sit outside - it's right across the street from the Bellagio so you can enjoy the water shows while you have a beverage and app or meal.

La Salsa Cantina has a really good and cheap breakfast deal if you can manage there before 11:00 AM, $3.99 for eggs and your choice of meat, comes with tortillas and breakfast potatoes.  There are a couple locations on the strip.

Drinks are free while you're gambling, if we're not planning on staying at a place for long we'll scope out where the cocktail waitresses are, put a couple dollars in a machine and order a drink, then leave right after we get it.  Or if you are planning on staying a while, tip the cocktail waitress well for the first round or two and she'll come back more often.  ;-)

There aren't as many of them anymore due to the expansion of all the properties, but be aware of the Mexicans pushing their stripper cards on everyone.  I was not warned about this before my first time in Vegas and was shocked.  They get pretty aggressive trying to shove these nudey cards right in your face.

Also be prepared to see a lot of families.  I don't get it, but Vegas has become a really popular family destination.  Why anyone would want to subject their LOs to smoke, drunk people everywhere, scantily clad women everywhere, etc. is beyond me.  You will see people with babies/toddlers too.  Stroller city.  Just prepare yourself.

There's a conservatory/indoor garden at the Bellagio that's free and really nice for when you want to get away from the hustle and bustle of Vegas.

    Have fun!!!

I'm a foodie. For drunk food (if you don't have this near you) you need to go to Fat Burger. It's between Paris and...i can't remember (not the ballys side).

Go to Mesa Grill in Caesar's (Bobby Flay) and get the quesadillas appetizer and margaritas. OMG orgasmic.

And the Lobster bisque at Delmonico in the Venetian was soooo good!

I like the free flower garden indoors at Bellagio. They change it every few months and it's amazing artistry with floral arrangements. And of course the fountains at night, at least once.

    Have fun!

  • Definitely catch a cirque show and all of the free shows that happen along the strip. I liked the dueling pianos at New York, New York, and you can pretty much just walk around the different casinos and see a ton of stuff. If you want to get off the strip, you can do a tour of Hoover Dam.

The day the Bump died - Jasper is wise
Image and video hosting by TinyPic
  • A few of the casinos offer free gaming lessons during the day. We went to the classes at Imperial Palace and got a coupon book that doubled your bet.

Seeing a Cirque show is way up on the list. Cirque Love is awesome! We saw Mystere and it was good, but I learned later that O and Ka are better.

If you need a break from the city, Hoover Dam is an easy trip.

The strip is freaking big! Use the monorail when you get tired of walking.

The Stratosphere has the world's tallest thrill rides on top of the building. I liked it better at night.

Have a great trip! Vegas is so much fun!

  • Definitely see a Cirque show. We saw Love and it was so good. We also ate in the restaurant at the top of the Stratosphere. It was pricey, but it spins(you don't really feel it) and you get to see all of Vegas lit up. Then you can go to the top where they have rides and you can take pics at the top outside.

I love Vegas! I've been 5 times and always find fun, different things to do.
But I agree a cirque shows a must. You can check travelzoo to see if there's anything on sale, sometimes they offer them 50% off otherwise stop at one of those half price outlets. I've seen zoomanity, ka, love and mystere. Love was my favourite. O is supposed to be amazing but hard to find on sale.

If you love to shop (which I'm quite sure you do) there are some awesome outlets off the strip. You can can it there it's probably like $25 each way. Google north or south premium outlets to see which one has stores you like if your interested.

If you rent a car red rock is beautiful! And if you like to gamble red rock casino nearby is very nice, which much better odds since it's a local casino.

The weather should be amazing that time of year so lots of pool time!!

    Have a great time.

  • You guys are the best! I was talking to MIL last night and I think Xumanity was on her list. We'll see how that goes. If I remember correctly we have 2 cirque shows "on the books". I can't remember what the second one was. They love Freemont street so I know we are going there. I'm for sure bookmarking this thread so I can pull it up when we get there. You guys have made me even more excited. It's going to be a fun trip.

Since the Blazers are advancing we also get to find a few good sports bats and watch the games while we're there.

Thanks for all the tips ladies!

    Stupid quotes aren't working correctly.

Maybe she meant to be aware of the Mexicans snapping cards at you and trying to get you to pick up a prostitute?
ETA: I went back and read what she typed, and that is what she meant. Just snipping it to say, "be aware of the Mexicans" was a little misleading.
