Re: Holy Heartburn!...N3TR

  • I know it sounds strange but have a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar. It works for me from time to time with heartburn. It tastes terrible, but its pretty good for you. I just recommend brushing

  • Ugh that does sound discusting, but at this point ill try anything
  • You need to call your Dr.  If it's not responding to OTC treatment and lasts longer than a week you could have something else like a hiatal hernia or H. Pylori infection.  If left untreated you could wind up with ulcers in your esophagus.

Good luck, hope you feel better soon.

  • Everything @kushie77 said.

I have a hiatal hernia a GERD and take Prilosec every day (you said it didn't work for you - it does take several days to start affecting your system, and needs to be taken daily; if you tried that to no avail, maybe try one of the others - my dad started Prilosec but ended up on Prevacid for example).

The only thing that works for me is sleeping propped halfway sitting up on 6 (literally) pillows, never eating/drinking citrus, cutting out spicy and caffeine, never leaning over (ever, including when I'm cleaning, BDing, anything), no clothing constricting that area. If I mess up and get the reflux, then it'll continue for a couple days, so I'm big on prevention.

Mine was diagnosed with a endoscopy. If it's just this past 7 days that you've been bothered, maybe try a few strategies and see if it helps, but if it's been chronic, seeing a dr. could be important.

    Good luck!!

  • Have you tried Zantac? I take Zantac 150 and it helps for occasional hb but I agree with others you may want to see a Dr. I had problems years ago and took Nexium everyday for months and it helped, along with divorcing my ex husband.
    Fucking bump!!!!
  • No advice, but I feel ya on the heartburn. I rarely get it, but the other day at work it was AWFUL!

If you find a remedy let me know!

  • Apple cider vinegar works for me. Just a tablespoon. If it goes on much longer, I'd call your doc, for all the reasons mentioned above. Sorry you're dealing with that!

Go to your doctor if it continues (even if it isn't as bad). I have GERDs. It sucks. I've had an endoscopy because it was so bad even after being on meds for a long time.

The least you should do is eat 2-3 hours before bed. Don't eat before bed. Do not recline/ lay down after eating. Cut back on spicy, greasy, acidic foods and drinks. Sleep propped up by pillows. Avoid bending over as much as possible after eating. This works for me.

Hopefully it resolves itself. Good luck.

  • I ended up needing to go on nexium for a few months so you should definitely get it checked out. Also, malox seems to help me a lot too!

I started getting heartburn a couple years ago, and found that pepcid 20mg at bedtime works wonders.  It's nice because it works quickly, whereas prilosec and prevacid can take a few days.  I've switched to zantac 150mg because it has more evidence for being safe in pregnancy (just in case).  It doesn't work quite as well but still does the job.
