Playdate - with teacher?

Has anyone ever done a playdate with the child of a teacher at your kids' daycare? This woman is so sweet and fun, and my son is crazy about her and her little boy. But I don't want to ask her and make her feel like she HAS to say yes - I mean, she just got done with my son in her class and gets my daughter in a few months. Also is the fact that... let's be honest, teachers aren't paid well, and I know we have a nicer house than hers.

Too awkward? Would you ask her? if so, how?

Re: Playdate - with teacher?

  • I don't see the big deal. There's one teacher at our DC with a son my sons age, I would totally ask her for a play date, but I know she lives kinda far from us. Also our weekends are pretty busy all the time, I really don't bother to do play dates except with my BFF and her kids.

I wouldn't worry too much about who's house is nicer.. Do you pick your friends that way?

    Seriously?  Of course not.

My concern is that, she has mentioned that she's having some trouble finding an affordable apartment close to the school.  I have a lot of guilt over teacher's crappy pay (it's not like teachers do anything IMPORTANT like, I don't know, educate the next generation), and having grown up in a community with extreme income disparities and a home where the income fluctuated wildly, it's something I'm very sensitive to.

Part of the reason we're able to have the house we have, is how crappy our daycare teachers are paid to take amazing care of our children... one of the things I ponder on my ridiculously long commute :-P

I'm just going to ask her.

You right to put some thought into this. If you think she's a potential friend, ask. You'll never know until you do.
