Geesh, I thought my house was pretty nice...but I'll bet I paid a lot for it #fuckyouAZ
These are pics from when we were touring it.
I like it, ok. I hate the kitchen! The tile is a PITA to clean and the cabinet color is not my favorite. I like the pool, and the open floor plan. It's not our forever home. It's 4/2 and >1900 square foot.
For the most part we love it. It was my grandmothers home and it was built by my grandfather and his dad and brothers back in like the 50's. we have updated it with new flooring, paint, hardware, and a bathroom remodel. It's a 3 bedroom 1 bath on an acre of land. However the garage and laundry room aren't attached so when it rains you can forget doing laundry and you have to walk through huge puddles to get to the garage. LO's room is right across from ours so I felt real secure with letting him sleep in there because he still felt super close.
We are slowly outgrowing the house though and we can't wait to have something bigger with an indoor laundry room. We also have a fairly large kitchen but I refuse to spend the money on new countertops but they are a funky green and I hate them. We also have lots of storage on property but most of it has been taken over by my brother and dad.
It is really close to my parents. The neighborhood is quiet and safe but a few streets over isn't as nice. Most of the houses are older so they aren't as pretty and some look kind of rundown. We would love to have another bathroom with a bigger tub.
Oh my goodness gracious. I totally have landscaping and square-footage envy!!!!!!!! *drools*
I'm going to play even though we are not in a house. We are renting a great apartment in central Geneva on a hip happenin' street (bars, cafes, and small shops under us). We are also right next to the center location of town that has a food market almost daily and a flea market wednesdays and sundays - always an adventure!
Super tall ceilings (like over 10ft), tons of light (our windows are over 6' tall), with a cross breeze through the apartment (no A/C).... here's the kicker. 1 bedroom. 500 square feet.
DS is currently sleeping in a pack n play in the kitchen!!!!! Our neighbor's kids "sleep" in the room next to ours and scream when they wake up randomly, thus waking up DS...so we had to move him and the kitchen is the only room that is quiet and has a window/doesn't face the street. OY VEY!
Real estate is almost impossible here and just outrageously priced. For reference, before finding our current apartment, we rented a 10x10 bedroom on the outskirts of town for $650/mo
What would I change??? Add at least one more bedroom and seal the old pipes between floors so we didn't smell other people smoking in the building If I'm dreaming I would also add a dining room so our living room wouldn't be a living-dining-office area
Attaching a pic of fun things at the flea market for good measure.
We have a near 2,000 sq ft split level. It's a great starter home. Really it's 4 bedroom, but no other rooms so I feel like we only have 2 bedrooms; since we have an office and the guest room.
Positives - large dining area, lots of storage, and huge area for garden in the back yard.
Negatives - we are too close to our neighbors (like 10ft), we are surrounded by rented out homes (so we always have different neighbors), I cannot see my back yard from my house.
Our house, err apartment, is the best! 700 square feet, 2 huge bedrooms, the biggest bathroom imaginable, and a living room that's to die for. We have amazing cinder block walls, comfy commercial carpet tile, and gorgeous dark brown (painted) wooden doors/trim. We have 5 windows in the entire place. Our kitchen is one 10 foot wall. It came with 2 appliances (an easy bake oven and a fridge). There are no lights on the ceiling but that's okay because we get LOADS of light from the teeny tiny wall sconce in each room. Oh how can I forget?! It was built in the 70's and nothing, I mean NOTHING has been changed since then. Good thing that was the greatest decade of all for architecture/interior design. Sigh. I just love it here. Living the dream!
Seriously, we are living in a jail cell. Can't wait to move!
Don't really like my house. It's not our forever home and needs alot of updates. It's not horrible and it's built like a fortress but DH is hesitant to put real money to make cosmetic upgrades to a home we know we won't be in forever.
It's 4 bedrooms, 2.5 baths. Certainly big enough for us, but not my dream home. Doesn't help that my town is undergoing a pretty extensive road construction project so my neighborhood is all dug up right now.
I love MA dearly and don't want to leave but we are clearly living in the wrong place when it comes to real estate! My dream style of house is a Florida house with a sun room, a pool, an open floor plan, and landscaping that is easy to maintain.

i was thinking you were really optimistic as i was reading...i get it. you're realistic. whew.
So loving this post! I am a huge design freak. We bought our house in 2012 after moving back home from Chi-town (I loved it, DH hated the city life, so he dragged me back). We gutted the entire first floor, put hard wood floors down, new counter tops, etc. We still have the master bathroom and the first floor bathroom to remodel, and the entire basement is unfinished. But, it will grow with us and we have 4 1/2 acres of wooded land behind us, so DS will have fun exploring and it's nice to sit outside and watch the birds. My favorite room is probably the formal dining room, and our master bedroom - we have a flat-screen above the fireplace by our king size bed.
The whole house is a little country for my taste, but "when in Rome..."
Pics are from the day we moved our furniture in (after reno), so no landscaping or decor is shown.
Loveee my house! Had it built; we thought it would be our starter home and only be here a few years....but I'm finding it difficult to leave because the neighborhood is the perfect family neighborbood, you can walk to the elementary school (being built now), we're a 1/4 mile from the neighborhood pool, tennis courts, baseketball court, and playground. However, we built it when I was young (21). I'm 26 now.. still young, but much more aware of amenities I want/need. I'm frustrated w/ no mud room, and would like more bathrooms upstairs.
I like my house but don't love it. Coming from Boston my childhood home had tons of charm. TONS. I miss having charm but I didn't care for always having to fix something. Our home is new it's only three years old and we bought it just as it was almost done.
2500 sq feet 4 bedrooms 2 1/2 baths own laundryroom, dining, and living room. Also there's a breakfast nook separate from kitchen that is pretty sizable.
Hate the tree out front and that since we got it super cheap he did thing lazy, there isn't any trim, boring colors, or grass in the backyard, and I had the builder come out four times to fix electrical. I wish there was a fireplace and a basement but with clay not really a good idea.
I do love the space, nice kitchen, big bathrooms, and big bedrooms. It has potential but I don't have a decorating bone in my body
My parents gave us 5 acres of land when we got married. It was part of my grandfathers land that was willed to my mom. It's beautiful land in the country and surrounded by family and people I grew up with. We rented a duplex until 2012 when we decided we would rather buy/build instead of paying rent. So, we purchased a modular home and had it placed on the property my parents gave us, which is where we live now. Our mortgage on it is cheaper than rent and the money we are saving is going directly toward our down payment for the home we are going to build on our land when the time comes. When it is built we will either sale the modular to someone who wants to move it, or we will rent it out.
My ideas about our dream home changes daily. I love looking at all of your homes and getting new ideas. I do have one requirement though, a HUGE front porch!!
steph 13055 -- where do you live or what do you do? Your house is huge?
Sorry, I missed this earlier. We live in the burbs north of Dallas. The house is about 4500 square feet. So yeah, it's a good size. Like I said, probably more than what we need. We don't have basements here, though.
Our jobs aren't spectacular or anything, but we make decent money. My mom paid for college, so I have no school loans. DH has about $3k left on his, so that is the main reason why we can afford it. We live very frugally otherwise. We aren't big on vacations or getting away, so our house really is where we spend all of our time.
I hate our house. Thank god we are selling it. It's a 3 bd, but dd is in the third, which is an office. The plan was that the kids would share but that's not happening. The kids rooms are both directly attached to the living room which is also the dining room and kitchen (goddamn open concept). The laundry room is just the washer dryer on a wall next to the fridge. The master is right behind the kitchen which is terrible. I cannot wait to move.
We are currently renting a 3br/bath house on a good-sized lot. It was built in the 1950s. At the end of the month we are closing on a much newer (2006) 3br/2bath house, and I'm so excited!
Some day I would love to have a larger historic house. I love the character of old houses. But for right now, the house we are buying is the perfect fit for what we need/can afford.
Also there is a mother-effing ant infestation in our rental house and it's driving me flipping nuts. We've tried so many different things to get rid of them and they keep coming back. I'm soooo glad we aren't buying this house. There's just too much work to do to it.
We like our house. It's 3 bedroom 2 bath and a bonus room. I do hate how small my closet, bathroom, and kitchen is. It's really close to a park which is a plus. We are gonna move next year.

Sounds lovely. You would like this gem of a duplex we rented in KS before we moved last summer. Yes, that is worn out astroturf on the porch, really adds a pop of color, no? The bathroom was fully tiled in a gorgeous barbie flesh color and the kitchen floor was green with gold flecks! Not pictured were the couple in the other half who covered all their windows in foil that their small children would tear down to see outside. These lovely neighbors also enjoyed having all out screaming matches at around 2:30am on week nights. The husband frequently screamed at his crying autistic three year old, calling him names and slamming doors.
Across the street was a fragrant rotting drainage ditch, perfect for taking afternoon strolls along, just watch out for used needles on the sidewalk!
Thank god we moved before I delivered.
Photo was taken before we moved in, I can't take credit for the dead plants. Also, this is what happens when your husband picks out a rental when you are still across the country.
We live in a small town, between two larger towns, in a three story town house, close to our local castle and castle garden. We have two full bathrooms, one guest bath, and four bedrooms. Honestly, its nothing fancy but I love it. Close enough to walk into town, the local farms, the kindergarten and schools, and lots of our social group. Our neighbors are fabulous (which is saying a LOT in this country).
This is so much fun looking at all the different houses. I love my house, but I wish we didn't live next to a commercial property. The owners of the store suck and their customers are pigs that liter everywhere and constantly use our driveway to turn around instead of using the parking lot. But the house I love it.
It was a farmhouse built in 1851, it has been apartments and the last resident before us was a crazy hoarder (actually one of my students grandmothers.) But the we bought it from a realtor who flipped it. It's two stories with three bedrooms upstairs and three baths. We live on shaded acre lot. The house is 1800 square feet. The only thing I wish it had was easier access to the basement. You either enter from outside or pull up a panel in the floor. I am super paranoid about tornados and every time there is a bad storm I get in a panic.
@jennlin very nice!!! are you in One Clubhouse Lane?
lol. nope..can't afford clubhouse! my IL's live in one club though... i'm right on the border of muk..just enough to get into the school district, but with realistic enough pricing.

Haha nice! That's the way to do it!
my inlaws live in a pretty much identical house to mine, specs wise (5bdrm, 3 bath, 3100sqft, early 90's, same builder, same school district). we have a slightly bigger lot, but their house is almost double ours in price.
Eta: just so they can say they live in one club. I live near picnic pointe
Love our house. It's our second. Twice as big as our first home. I don't love that it's a so cookie cutter and I can see my house 30 times over As I drive through the neighborhood. But. I figured we will individualize it more as the years go on.
I love that we are on a nice big corner lot. I love that that master bedroom is downstairs with three other bedrooms up. It's harder this way with babies, but I know I will like it more and more as the girls grow.
I have personalized it a little by painting the door red. But it need some major landscaping. Hoping to replace the dead tree this weekend and maybe get some Rose bushes or something.

Wow, there are some amazing houses in here! Ours is nice, but I'm getting the itch to move. It's a brick cape from the 1950s, about 2000 sf, and we have 6 bedrooms. I'd like something newer & in a development. I'm also not crazy about our school district. But we've done a lot to it, so it will be hard to leave because it's so personalized.
Awe I love this thread! You all have such gorgeous homes! This is ours, a tiny 1600 sqft home that sits an about 1.2 acres. We have redone every room except the master bathroom and cleared out the back of the lot of cedar trees. We are actually going to be moving in the next year or two to the corpus Christi area and I will be so sad to leave our little home.
Also want to add that I had major lolz that we went from board wide hysteria over deleting photos to sharing pictures of our houses in less than a week.
I only have one pic of our house. It's from a couple years ago. All the bushes are gone now. We have a 1 car garage. It's 4 bedrooms, 2.5 baths, living room, dining room, kitchen. It's 1900 sq feet.
