A taste of L&D

Being that this has been a fairly easy pregnancy, it was totally unexpected that my MW would have me come to L&D this morning. I was going on 24 hours with very very little fetal movement, and then on my drive to work I was experiencing period-like cramps that would not go away and started to go down my thighs. Nothing super painful, but definitely there and concerning. Fast forward about an hour after a phone call to my MW and DH and I'm in L&D....Baby was totally fine, and of course as soon as I was hooked up to the monitor baby was moving all over the place and hasn't stopped since. However, they noticed that my uterus was talking a lot. My cervix looked good, and there were no signs of labor or anything, so they thought the contractions might be because of either dehydration or an infection. They pumped me with several bags of fluid and tested for pretty much everything....and nada. The simple answer is that I have an irritable uterus. In all the threads on TB I've read I've never seen nor heard of this, so of course I would have it. I'm on 'home rest' - not bed rest, but basically no work or house work and just relaxing - for the rest of the week and have a checkup this weekend and they'll decide if I can go back to work next week. As much as I don't like what I do, I kinda do want to go back only so that I don't use up all of my FMLA before baby is here for something that's not super serious. I just need to make it two more weeks then they can keep me home as much as they want! But according to MW cramps/contractions = no work. So we shall see!

Glad you're ok! @letsgobowlingx has a very irritable and naughty uterus, she's been in L&D quite a bit with random contractions/cramping. Boo! Hopefully things settle down for you soon. If you have to be taken off work don't fight it if the doc/MW says it's best for the baby.

An irritable uterus is so annoying but relaxing, laying on left side, and off the feet helps tremendously:)

I'm glad to hear everything is ok. Hopefully your ute is just going thru a quick mood swing and gets back with the program. Fx that everything goes well at your appointment over the weekend.

that's so nerve-wracking but it's good that baby is ok!!!

i haven't had any l&d trips yet - hoping to avoid it until go time. it doesn't look too glamorous up there (i work at the hospital).

Thanks ladies! I'm having the same 'big' cramp as yesterday right now down super low and down my thighs, and it happened at the same exact time yesterday. Interesting. It's not more intense or anything, though, so they said not to worry unless it gets more painful or more frequent.

Glad you are ok. Rest up! I'm at home too.....2 week medical leave due to dehydration and high blood pressure. Not fun and it did eat up my sick time as a teacher. It means I rest and do a great deal of thinking/planning for the babies! Thinking of you! I'm only 17 weeks though. You are closer to the finish line lady!

Put those feet up and rest! I've been to L&D two times too many this pregnancy, I'd be quite content not going back until these babies are fully cooked.
