Another B-Day party question...

I know the rest of you have been thinking about your LOs B-Day for about a year now but DH and I just got talking about it this morning...  8-} DH is OBSESSED with smoking meat and wants to smoke a brisket and possibly try making jalapeno poppers in the smoker as well but he was appalled when I thought maybe we could have an afternoon party for J. "You can't smoke meat in that short of time! What time do you want me to get up for this party!?" But we're inviting other littles so I didn't want everyone to feel as though they had to change their evening routine for J.  SOOOOOO here's my question: 
Would it be stupid to have the party start at like 4:00-ish and have cake and ice cream and presents first and then anyone who wants to stay and have food and drinks after can? Kinda like a baby/adult party?

    My mom always has her parties at 4. I think that's fine.

    I think it's fine. It's not like you're starting it at 7. It'll get the littles nice and tired for a good nights sleep :)

    I think four is perfect! Our family is full of farmers so we can't start until six! UGH, I suggested four and DH was like 'Ha, you'll never get dad out of the fields that early unless it's downpouring.' Whatever, I think you should do it!

    I just had my Los this past weekend and we did 11. It worked great because he could nap before and then by the time we ate, did gifts cake etc it was time for his second nap... However, it caused a lot of people to stick around all day which was kind of annoying..Partys over! hahaha If only I could have said that

    4 is fine for a party and you can still have the meat ready. Our LOs party starts at 5. We don't do lunch/afternoon parties in our family.

    Since DH is graduating that weekend we're doing a combined party. Having the littles over at 2 with appetizers and cake then. People who want to stay we're doing more dinner type food that evening. I've just assumed I will be entertaining all day. You can always tell people to come over at 2-3 and have some snacks and those who want to stay for Chef DH's meat can as well.
