Really swollen right foot

Hey ladies! I have been very lucky with swelling until recently. The last few days I have become very swollen, but my right foot and ankle are a lot more swollen than my left. This is so weird to me bc with DS1 it was equal swelling. What the heck? Has anyone heard of significant more swelling on one side? Oh and just so you know, I have my weekly tomorrow so I will of course bring it up. TIA!

Re: Really swollen right foot

  • My left is always more swollen!

  • I have not had significant swelling but I have noticed when my feet swell my right foot is more swollen then the left, and my right fingertips get tingly, but my left don't.
  • My left is visibly more swollen than the right- my MW said it was normal

If you are having unilateral swelling and pain, please don't wait until tomorrow, go to the hospital ASAP. I ignored my pain and swelling for over a week and now suffer from a substantial clot in my leg. Better to be safe than sorry!

  • I went to the hospital last week for that. My left foot was like 2 times the size if the right. They were concerned about blood clots. I would call just to be safe. It ended up being nothing but then my OB said she wants me to keep track of my blood pressure now for possible pre eclampsia. She also said sometimes that just happens depending on how the baby is positioned. I would ask though since everyone is different.

    This is me exactly!
  • My left is always more swollen than my right. My OB said it could be the baby's position but I'd definitely get it checked out.

If it's significant swelling I would call to be sure.. My right used to be more than my left and my OB said its because the baby was laying more on the right side so it was nothing to worry about
  • I've only had swelling in my ankle/foot a few times -- seems the past week it's been especially bad -- and it's also always on my right foot!
  • I have more swelling on my right dominant side as well. No crazy difference just barely noticeable. Baby tends to hang out on my right side as well.

  • My right foot swells more too. I read it's because the vena cava (major vein) is on the right side and the added pressure can have that effect. It's the same reason we're supposed to lay on our left sides.

  • Agree with previous posters. If significantly different go get it checked out to make sure not a blood clot (life threatening and increased risk in pregnancy)
  • My left foot is always more swollen than my right. I spoke with my doctor and she advised me that it's normal and some woman get that.

  • Thanks everyone! I saw my Dr. and she was not concerned with it. She thinks it's the way the baby is laying, but said if it gets worse or hurts to call her. I also saw whit stars today, so I am on alert now. I was also instructed to call if I have that again. Here is to a quick, uneventful 2.5 weeks. Lol
