Smoothie Recipies

Guessing this is the best board for this, but I was wondering if anyone could reccommend some smoothie recipies during pregnancy.  I don't always have the time to eat all my veggies every day, much less remember to buy, chop and pack on a daily basis.  Figured smoothies might be the smart way to go to get what I need in a easily portable manner.

Anny suggestions/recipies?  Just nothing too thick/green; I'd hope to be able to have it taste good lol. :)

Re: Smoothie Recipies

  • I don't have measurements because I just eye-ball it, but I typically do 2 fruits and 1 veggie.

So I do Almond Milk with:

    Pick 2 Fruits:
    Apple; Banana; Berries; Peach; Orange

    Pick 1 Veggie:
Carrots; Zucchini; Cucumber; BN squash; Avocado (I also do spinach and other leafy veggies but you said no green smoothies)

Then blend it up with 4 ice cubes

    My favorite right now is:
Almond Milk (just enough to cover the blades)
    1 Apple
    1 Banana
    10 Baby Carrots
    Splash of OJ
    4 ice cubes

  • We were on holidays last year on the island of St. Martin, and this is where I had an unusual smoothie that I now love. Beets and bananas! Unusual combination I know, but it was fantastic! What I do is boil or roast beets till cooked. Peel them and then throw them into my magic bullet with a little water to puree smooth. I then freeze them in baggies in 1/4 cup measurements ready for use. When I want one, I just simply throw one bag and banana with a little milk, yogurt or water into my magic bullet along with some chia seeds and vanilla flavoured protein powder. Yum!! ( if you like beets ) Such a gorgeous fuchsia colour!!
  • Can I used cooked beets in the glass jar from the store instead?

  • I do spinach or kale, frozen bananas, frozen strawberries, vanilla greek yogurt for protein, and water.  Sometimes I throw in a splash of apple juice because I think it adds some tart/sweetness that I like.

  • Spinach or kale, banana, berries, chia seeds, and coconut milk (the full-fat kind from the can). So good!

The general formula I use is:

    1 banana
    1 leafy green (spinach/kale etc)
1 other fruit or veggie (berries, melons, etc)
    coconut milk
nuts & seeds (flax seeds, almonds or almond butter, pretty much anything!)

The nuts and seeds are great for your protein! Some fruits will mask the taste of the leafy greens much better, so you might just have to experiment. My daughter loves these though!

  • I understand your desire for convenient and nutritious smoothie options during pregnancy. Smoothies can be a great way to pack in essential vitamins, minerals, and nutrients when you're short on time or struggling to get in all your fruits and veggies.

Here are a few delicious and pregnancy-friendly smoothie recipes to consider:

    1. Banana-Berry Blast: Blend together frozen berries (such as strawberries, blueberries, or raspberies), a banana, yogurt, and a splash of milk or juice. The natural sweetness from the fruit helps mask any "green" flavors.

    2. Creamy Peanut Butter and Banana: Combine a banana, peanut butter, milk or milk alternative, and a touch of honey for a satisfying, protein-packed smoothie.

    3. Tropical Mango Delight: Blend mango, pineapple, coconut milk, and a handful of spinach or kale for a nutrient-dense, yet sweet and creamy smoothie.

    4. Chocolate-Avocado Smoothie: Mix avocado, cocoa powder, banana, milk, and a touch of honey or maple syrup for a rich, indulgent treat.

The key is to start with a fruit or vegetable base, add in some protein (like yogurt or nut butter), and then customize with your favorite flavors. Don't be afraid to experiment until you find the perfect smoothie combination that you enjoy and that provides the nutrition your body needs during pregnancy.

I hope these suggestions give you a good starting point. Let me know if you have any other questions!
