The Rowselettes Have Arrived

Well they've actually been here for about a month now, but this is probably only the second time I've been able to sit down at a computer since they got here. :)  They decided they couldn't wait any longer than 34 weeks and 4 days to come greet the world.  I went into labor on my own, and as discussed with my doctor, we were at the point of no longer trying to prevent babies from coming.  So after an IV bag of fluids and 1.5 hours of monitoring, it was determined that I was actually in labor, and it was go time.  I was thrilled that my doctor was able to come in and be the lead on the delivery.  I am still amazed at how quickly the whole thing happened after we did an ultra sound, and the decision was made to do a c-section.  I think it took a total of 40 minutes from the decision to babies being here, and that wasn't even an emergency scenario.

On March 23rd at 10:26 pm & 10:27 pm first Alexander James and then Archer John were born by c-section (due to the fact that Archer decided to stay in his sideways position).  Xander was 5 lbs. 6 oz. and 19.5 in. long.  Archer was 4 lbs. 13 oz. and 18 in. long.  When I first saw them, I couldn't believe that both of those babies fit inside of me.  Xander came out crying, but Archer needed extra work by the pediatrician and a nurse before he let out his first cry.  And oh what a glorious sound that was. :)  Both babies needed IV fluids, and Archer needed extra O2 for the first 6 hours.  We ended up staying in the NICU for two weeks, mainly to ensure that they could eat well on their own and consistently gain weight.  They did amazing, too.  Both took to breast feeding and bottle feeding like champs and were able to latch without the nipple shield by the time we left the hospital.  And boy do they eat a lot!
