Vomiting after feeding

Is anyone else having problems with their baby vomiting? James is only 11 days old and has vomited about 4 times over the past few days. Yesterday he did twice in one day! Anyone else experiencing this? I've talked to the doctor and she doesn't seem concerned, but if anyone has any advice on how to better prevent this, I would appreciate it.

    Do you mean spitting up? My LO spits up after every meal usually and sometimes multiple times. We gave tried taking breaks to burp and keeping her upright after but nothing has helped so far. Some babies just spit up a lot.

    Make sure you're getting burps /gas relief and maybe keep baby upright for a while after feeding.

    We take burp breaks and try to sit him up right after. I'm pretty sure it's vomit - there's so much that comes up and it even comes out of his nose. He always seems ok afterwards - happy even - but what really throws me for a loop is when he acts hungry right after. Do I feed him?

    I wonder if your LO has reflux. My nieces spit up a lot and always wanted to feed after spitting up. Doc says that the feeding helped to soothe the reflux discomfort. I know that they had to take reflux meds early on to help with this.

    I would definitely keep feeding him if he acts hungry. DS1 used to spit up constantly because he had reflux. Our pedi assured me that it's probably not nearly as much as it seems. She suggested measuring out an ounce of water and spilling it onto a flat surface to see how much it actually was, and she was right that he wasn't really spitting up *that much*.

    My daughter spits up multiple times a day and vomits occasionally. When she vomits she screams (and it's significantly more fluid than when she spits) and is pretty uncomfortable but spit up is no big deal. I think the general consensus is as long as they're happy doing it they're ok. And based on previous threads, spit up out the nose is normal too.

    My DS was doing this at first, out the nose and all. He was adjusting to the fast let down of milk. It subsided after 2 weeks or so. I would keep offering the breast if he wants it.

    Is it more then would fill your hands (vomit) or just a little belch with milk ( spit up) if its actual vomit I would try to kee them upright after feeding for about 10 mins and try to lay them on more of an incline then flat on back. If its spit up that's normal and u wouldn't change anything.

    DS did this for about two or three days. Turns out he was constipated. He would strain so hard trying to have a BM, he would make himself throw up. Once he started having regular BM again, the vomiting stopped.

    You could also monitor your own diet. Keep track of everything you're eating and drinking in relation to the milk you're pumping. You could be eating something that doesn't agree with his system. Sometimes, having too much garlic or broccoli can make your breastmilk intolerable for his tummy. If he's being offered warmed, pumped milk, the temperature might be off - when it's too cold it can shock his tum and make him vomit. There are lots of factors in play, but if he seems happy and still wants to eat after vomiting/spitting up, go ahead an feed him more. This should definitely be mentioned to his doctor, just so that he/she is aware of it.
