I am on my moms insurance because I'm in my 20s and not married. She's a teacher and I guess gets good insurance?? Everyone at the doctor always ask if Blue cross blue shield is my only insurance? Is that insurance not good or something? They changed the insurance this school year, so I do not know all the details of the new insurance!

That's s normal question to ask. Some people have 2 insurances. Yours is fine

I'm paying out of pocket for my homebirth midwife ($2500) but I have Tricare, and she will bill post birth but we don't expect them to cover anything. Voted SS
You might be pleasantly suprised. They told me home birth is not covered through blue Cross blue shield but they paid 100%!! I hope the same happens this time!
If not, I know my MW is worth every penny and DH wants me to be the most comfortable I can. He's actually REALLY on board with me giving birth at home, and it makes me so happy.
I'm prepaying (by 32 weeks) because I'm planning a homebirth and insurance doesn't pay for those very often. Also, I have terrible insurance and with the deductible and out of pocket max, I'll still be paying about 1/2 of what I would if I were having a hospital birth on the insurance. Basically I'm getting what I want, which I already knew I'd have to pay for, with a chance insurance might pay for some of it, which would put me further ahead. Of course, the gamble is whether my homebirth goes as planned. Even if I end up in the hospital, at least I have the insurance to fall back on, but I'd still pay for the midwife. It's a risk I'm willing to take. I love my midwife!

I have private insurance through my work. I'm very lucky in that my employer fully pays my premium for myself and DH (and will for LO too once he or she comes). All I am responsible for is any possible copays that come up, and the per night hospital stay fee. But I'm also lucky because my work will also reimburse you the cost of up to 5 nights hospital stays.
At my first appointment at the OB, they had me sign paperwork that their normal fee for prenatal and birth care is like $4,000 for a vaginal birth in case something isn't covered by insurance. (Can't remember what it was for a c-section, but it wasn't that much more.) They apparently wait to bill the insurance company until the end, but I'm not worried about it being covered since I'm going to in-network doctors. I even switched PCPs so that my 1st trimester screening would be covered since the place required the PCP be a capitated site.
