Working until baby comes? Come in!

Re: Working until baby comes? Come in!

  • I am trying to work till I am due but I am a nurse and these 12 hour days are long!! I keep hoping I'll go into labor soon. It's really hard to have patients and their due date is right there with you and your still pregnant! I
do get a lot of kiddo points from my patients because I am still working.

Also I am tired of everyone asking how much longer till she comes and how long am I going to work.

I'm an RN too and the 12 hour shifts are getting to me. Sounds like you work with the younger patients. I'm on a telemetry floor and most patients are 80+. The other day I was so busy I only sat down 20 minutes to eat in 13 hours. Went home, sat on the couch and when I got up, I couldn't walk. My hip kept giving out. I still have a month before my due date and I am scheduled to work until the very end

  • High school teacher. Our state tests are May 2nd. Only seven days to go!! My EDD? May 2nd. Seven days. I am working through the test day, and then I'm done.

Mommas, we only have a little while longer. We can totally make it!!

  • Exhaustion, irritability, achy body, all are present. My goal is to make it to 5/16, then WFH until baby comes. DH and I were talking last night and we both have a gut feeling he will be here early. I have to save my PTO, too, and go unpaid for the rest of my leave. I'm afraid 12 weeks is going to fly by and I won't be ready to go back. I'm just glad I've gotten my computer setup to do work at home in case I poop out early.

  • I am due 5/14 and had planned to work up until that date, but now I'm thinking of stopping a week ahead. I had been really good up until the last few days.  I think I've just been doing too much, I'm the only counselor at my school and this is the craziest week of testing.  I should have tried getting help packing up ACT materials, I think I was doing too much bending and lifting.  I felt horrible last night (my belly button area was so sore, weird!) and I am exhausted today!

    Good luck ladies!
  • @haylo33‌ yeah, I work postpartum. It's still busy because our turn around is so fast. We are the only hospital with a NICU so we get a lot of patients. It's not as bad as when I worked on med/surg. It was rough being pregnant and trying to get your post op knee/hip/back patients to the bathroom!

  • So sorry all you ladies are struggling with this too. No advice, bit commiseration aplenty. I'm 36 weeks now, and I've had every intention of working up until my EDD/baby's arrival, but....for the first time today seriously contemplated leaving early. So exhausted it's hard to stay awake, let alone concentrate, swollen feet, hip popping out, hard to sit or walk, and heartburn so bad I'm vomiting multiple times a day in the past few days. It's hard to be effective at work, and honestly, I don't know how I'm going to get through this for another four weeks.
  • Welp, it's upon me: the busiest day of my work year. Board meeting + annual legislative reception all in the same day/night. 2 years ago I couldn't even hang with the stress and drank copious amounts of free wine at our reception. My husband had to drive me home!

I can't wait to waddle around all day as fast as I can and listen to board members & guests comment on how pregnant I am. @-)

  • I work full time at a pretty physically demanding job (zookeeper) plus 4-8 hours a week at a coffee shop. I just did two days in a row where I worked the coffee shop for three hours then went in to the zoo for eight. It is getting tough. My feet are so sore and definitely a bit swollen, and my hands keep swelling. I am trying to power through until d-day. My temp replacement is training in next week, and after that she will be working with me for the last couple weeks of work. I can't wait because things are getting hard. Being on my feet all day sucks, shoveling and raking suck, I tried to hop a small fence today and the amount of effort it took was pathetic, and just walking around all day is hard and slow going. And today due to acid reflux I burp/vomited up part of lunch while I was driving around the zoo, luckily no guests were around. As much as I don't want him to come early, I am not excited for the next three weeks of work. All i can say is hang in there ladies, we are in the home stretch!
  • I feel the same way I have 3 weeks left and I'm working still as much as I can because we need the money. I can't hardly get any sleep the bigger I get the harder it is to fall asleep plus I keep getting cramps or contractions on and off through out the day. I want nothing more to just sleep but it won't happen any time soon between work and school with our finales coming up. These 3 weeks feel like they're going by so slow and I'm just ready for him to get here.
  • Scheduled to work until 5/9 and RCS is 5/12. Not dealing well. I just want to be done :(

  • I work in an elementary school but I am not a teacher, I'm considered an additional adult. Which unfortunately means I am considered a seasonal employee, so I get no benefits, no maternity leave at all. I don't really have a choice to work for as long as I can. I'm due in 7 days, so I'm going to try and make it through next week of school and make Friday my last day. We shall see if I make it that far. Usually during the day I feel pretty good, so when I get home I help my 7 year old with homework and do dinner and shower time. I've also been doing more around the house then I have been, my nesting phase kicked in a later due to the fact we live in a small 2 bedroom apt. Wouldn't be so bad but DH and I share a room and our 4 girls share the other room. They have 2 sets of bunk beds. So we had to do major rearranging in our room to make room for our little one. At night is absolutely the worst for me because during the day I feel pretty good and I end up over doing it and at night I'm almost in tears from the joint pain in my legs and pain in my vagina. I use one of the C shaped pillows in between my legs and try to get into a semi-comfortable position and stay there.

  • I am almost 36 weeks and planning to work up to 40 weeks. But I am very fortunate I have a sitting job and my bosses are very helpful at keeping my stress level down and being accommodating. I don't know how you ladies can be on your feet all the time. You amaze me! Keep it up, you can do it!! All the babies will be here before we know it!!
  • My due date is May 2. I am working until April 30. I am a dog walker so getting the exercise and being outside seems to help with the lower back pain. Plus I am taking my finals this week and working in getting all my papers done as well. Hoping DD holds off until the evening of the 30th, then she can come whenever. I am moving on the 17th, so this month is just busy for me. Can't put the move off either. MW said she would talk induction if I go past 41 weeks. Hoping it dosent come to that.
  • So sad I have to go back to work on Monday, and back to 12 hour days on my feet and barely any bathroom breaks. Le sigh.

  • I have a desk job and my due date is May 8th. The swelling in my feet and calves are so awful! I try to prop them up at my desk, but it doesn't really help. I had planned on workin up until baby arrives, but if he doesn't come by may 2nd, that will be my last day. I can't concentrate anymore and find that I am extremely irritable. My office can be pretty stressful as well, and I'm just over it at this point.

  • I plan on working up to EED. That is 19 more work days. I work at a hospital and my duties include both desk time and patient time. My feet are swollen but I do prop them up under my desk. I feel exhausted at the end of the day And nervous about being around folks with CDIFF and such. I hope the next 19 days fly by.
  • I am working until baby arrives but I have a desk job and after reading all these posts, I cannot complain. T&P to all the mamas who are working on their feet all day. You ladies are superheroes.

  • working full time doing Executive Asst work up until this baby comes too. I work an hour from home/dr office so after I see my doctor next week she may suggest I start working from home or my maternity leave (depending on how much more i've dilated)...I have 2 1/2 weeks left so I'm hoping he comes before I have to have the conversation with my boss about making an exception and letting me work from home for one more week so I don't waste my maternity time! I've had some cramping and contractions but nothing consistent and I'm praying that I at least start labor during a time when it's not rush hour traffic!
