I had my first one today and saw stars that's how much it hurt. I'm not dilated but she said my cervix is thinning. Really hope it isn't a weekly thing because I'm now dreading my appointments.
I have my second one tomorrow. I didn't think it was too terribly painful but I did bleed a lot afterwards. I honestly thought the GBS swab was worse this time around.
When I visited Labor and Delievery last week to be checked out I had numerous cervical checks done and each one hurt and was more uncomfortable then for my liking. She said we'd have to do one at my 37 week appointment and the GBS swab....I'm so not looking forward to that.
However, when I was in labor, I felt so lousy that I didn't care what they were sticking up there as long as at some point she was coming out.
@ISeeYouRN what?! They stuck something up your butt?! I had the q-tip swab for GBS today, but nothing in my butt. I'll do that test 100 times if I can avoid the cervical check.
My dr is short with little hands and she said my cervix is high.
Hmm I've had one when I went into triage around 27 weeks and can't say it felt much different than a Pap smear which never bothered me either. It was more awkward to have a guy ob shoving his hand up my hoo-ha in Front of my DH than anything. That said I haven't had one since and likely will decline until 38 weeks.
In my first pregnancy, I didn't have one until I was in the hospital being induced. After the nurse was done I told her there were far easier ways to check my tonsils.
They really don't tell you anything so I'm declining this time around unless I'm in labor or make it to 41 weeks and we need to start talking about induction.
This! The nurse said the Dr would do a check today at my 36 week appt and I was all, No Thanks! NBD!
I had my first check on Tuesday. My OB encouraged me to have the checks. He has encountered several ladies (who were refusing them) show up at the office stating they were feeling off/funny. No pain or anything like that. When he checked, some of them were dilated as high as 9 and didnt realize they were in labor.
While I certainly didnt enjoy my experience (hell! I didnt even get dinner out of the deal!), I will put up with the checks mainly out of curiosity.

I lol'd so loud I scared the crap out of my sleeping cat.
I've had 2 cervix checks so far- both strictly to assess how well my cerclage was holding up after having contractions. Once my cerclage comes out on Monday I think I'll decline further checks until labor is actually started. They're uncomfortable as hell, but I feel that way about anything that involves hands or speculums in my vagina. I suspect that I won't want to labor very long without an epi- I just don't like pain/pressure in those bits.
Strangely enough, the GBS test was surprisingly a total non-event. Not at all uncomfortable or awkward.

As long as MY doctor does them, I don't find them to be too terribly miserable, but a nurse checked me several weeks ago in L&D and the pain was absolutely horrifying. I think if depends on the person checking you.
This. When my Dr does it it has never hurt, but the nurse I had in L&D with DD... Omfg. I unintentionally grabbed her arm and pushed her away.

Ya, having that stick shoved up my butt wasn't the most pleasant experience. At least there have been hands in my vag before so that wasn't that new...
They put it up your butt?? Mine they just kinda swabbed around the edges... Man I'm beginning to like my ob a lot more after reading all these posts!

This is how I feel. The first time around I felt discouraged because there was no progress the weeks leading up to my due date (and she was born one day early), but this time around I found out I was 3 cm at 36w6d. I know that doesn't necessarily mean anything, but it gave me a heads up that it might be soon, and she was born 3 days later.

Call me crazy, but I think that would be kind of awesome! I'd love to get to 9 cm and not feel a thing. Then again, I don't really want a toilet baby so...maybe it's a trade off.

To add on to my previous post (I did post on this right?) not only was mine uncomfortable, I've been bleeding (brown) ever since and having cramps which I know is totally normal but annoying. I got it checked on Thursday. DH thinks she is going to put me into labor but I told him that's crazy. That's crazy, right? Now I'm not so sure.... I'd rather just wait it out and see than get checked again.
I had to go to L & D because I thought maybe I was in labor. Neither the nurse or OB on call could get to my cervix and it hurt like hell when they went fishing. My cervix is high and to the back and my uterus tilts to the left. I know how to position myself to help but neither one wanted to listen. The MW on duty came in to do the check, since I wasn't going home without one and she helped me get into said position and found it first time. It still hurt because I was sore from the two previous misses but she told me from here on out to refuse the checks if those checking won't let me get into the right position. I told my MW about it when I went for my 39 week check and she it put it my notes.
