'Food before one just for fun' - tell that to my son who wants to #eatallthethings. Food is a serious business for him!
I have read the Rapley BLW book and I think that the 'anti-purees' comes from that book. But that is part and parcel of trying to normalize a style of feeding that is not generally known by the masses. The book looks down on spoon feeding as if doing so will somehow limit your child's ability to master the skill of self feeding.
From my experience with my son so far, the purees have not hindered his ability to pick up foods, and chew things. I offer him whole foods and mashes and he wants it all.
He has yet to figure out the sippy cup though, but has learned to drink from a regular cup. This makes my morning coffee really difficult as he sits there and stares me down thinking that he somehow needs what is in my cup.
I haven't done the BLW .. I have been making her purées and have a pretty nice stash going in the freezer. She is really enjoying her food and I let her play"feed" herself. I am giving her breakfast and dinner and adding a snack in between. I have also started on chicken and turkey which I purée as well (that is a little more grainy) but she has been doing well with this so far.
I think that people who feel the need to come into posts that are pro BLW and post things like #teampuree #teamfeedyourbaby are being really sensitive and I don't get why at all. How is wanting to do BLW saying that purées are wrong? I have baby food purées in my cupboard. I find it more convenient to primarily hand her food and have her feed herself because I'm lazy as fuck. If someone comes asking to be talked off the BLW ledge since they're scared, I'll post explanations and supportive statements for their choices. I think it's more widely talked about because not many of us (including myself) had heard of BLW so we tend to talk about it here and post questions and ask for support. This is just like when there were tons of bfing posts and there were lots of feelings, which was understandable, but this is not. Why are you all so sensitive about purées? If you don't want to BLW then don't? I don't get it. I really don't.
