I am trying to decide between the original Boppy and the new 2 sided (soft & firm sides) Boppy. Does anyone have experience with both? Which would you recommend & why?
We also had both the original boppy and a my brest friend. I hated the boppy and loved the MBF the first 2-3 months. The firmness & shape really helped me get DS2's floppy NB body positioned well for a good latch. After that he was too big to fit on the MBF well & I just found it annoying. I'd use the boppy if it happened to be around, but more often than not used a throw pillow or my arm braced on my leg or a rolled up receiving blanket to support him.
I did like the Boppy for propping him up & for putting behind him when he was learning to sit.
I would guess the two-sided Boppy is their answer to helping with the floppy NB days. My only concern would be whether the shape is good for getting LO to be squarely on their side. If it does a good job of that, then that might be a great product since it'd be useful for both the early days and the older days.
i think everyone is talking about the my breast friend because the design is similar to the 2-sided boppy.
i had the regular boppy. it worked pretty well for me, but i can see how it might have been nicer to have more support/bulk like the MBF or the 2-sided boppy would provide. the downside of that bulkiness is that you might not be able to use it for other things-- i used the regular boppy a lot for tummy time or for support for when DS was starting to sit up on his own.
I have an original boppy that I started using when LO was a newborn. I tried the Breast Friend pillow and did not like it at all, personally. Still using the boppy and LO is 9 months old. Multipurpose and love it.
I used the original Boppy and I would say it worked reasonably well, but I agree with the criticism about it being too floppy and not providing enough support. I have the Breast Friend pillow, which I would use from the start if I had to do it over. It is ideal for a very small infant, has excellent support and stability. At this point, my 6 month old is over 28 inches long and is 21 lbs, so neither is big enough for him. Now I just lay a king size pillow on my lap and that works great.
