I'd honestly buy black kitchen appliances over white, maybe over SS. Here's our black/SS remodeled kitchen from our townhouse that we sold in the fall. We remodeled for sale, and had to replace the stove and dishwasher. Didn't see the sense in going SS for the cost, but we did match the brand. All GE appliances.
ETA: the original fridge location was to the left (when facing) of the stove, where the wall cabinets are higher. However our fridge was both too tall, and too wide for that spot, so we improvised, and put in new base cabinets to create more storage and counter space.
I was going to comment and say that black appliances are the way to go! IMO, white looks cheap, and SS is just a PITA, but black is perfect. I am also team no granite, but I do love dark hardwood floors. We have pergo/laminate "wood" flooring so it doesn't scratch near as easily. Also team yes to white cabinets! Magic erasers are your friend!
Just jumping in to say I'm with @hfooter. I like to hope for the best but prepare for the worst. The labor horror stories just help me mentally prepare myself (if that is even possible as a FTM).
Baby oil works great on SS getting fingerprints up, and it doesn't take much....
My UO is probably pretty specific to where I live (university family housing), but I get a little annoyed with people who just wander into random courtyards with their kids to play on the playground. Every courtyard has one, why do you have to come over here when you have one that is practically identical???

Grandparents making a big deal about what they want to be called and not wanting to be called grandma/grandpa seems completely weird to me. (My mom was lobbying for Mimi. What the what?)
Mimi is hugely popular where I live. A few more random ones I've encountered: MooMoo and FawFaw (in their defense, the kid made theirs up), Punky, Nonny, and Mona.
I don't like it when the USA remakes British TV shows. By all means, take our shows and enjoy them but you don't need to remake everything. We don't remake everything you send over here. Cases in point:
The Office
Skins
Shameless
All of the originals of these are better than the remakes. I do enjoy the US office, but it's a lot sillier than the original UK version.
I hate the American Top Gear. Really, why mess with a good thing.
My UO is that I hate stuffed animals. HATE them. Always have. They seem so pointless to me. I could see if you/your kid had one that you/they were absolutely attached to, but to have several? A whole collection? They just take up space and collect germs and dust and drool and other gross stuff. We've gotten so many little stuffed animals for LO and I'm just like.. ew.
I LOVE the smell of cleaning products. Not just during pregnancy, I'm always like that. I'm OBSESSED with the smell of laundry detergent and Pine Sol (specifically the lemon scent). Everyyyyyy time I let the dogs outside, I have to pass the laundry room and I will literally grab the bottle of laundry detergent and just smell it while the dogs are going potty. I'll also pour Pine Sol in the toilets or plug the sink, pour in some Pine Sol, dilute it with water and I'd take that over a candle any day. I don't actually clean the sink or the toilet, I just like the way it smells. It's so fucking weird. I know.
fyafighterwife86 - Your UO about the smell of cleaning products reminds me of my own UO - I love the smell of skunks. Wierd, I know - but I grew up in the country and for some reason, just really like it. Maybe it's a nostalgia thing?
@TaylorHam86 - Ditto. I already cringe at the thought of LO having too many (which would be more than 2? 3?).
MY UO: I don't like horses. I know that there are many people who love them, have them, care for them, and I give you all the credit in the world. Just not my thing.
I also very much dislike all things with wings. I have big hair. I fear that things with wings will nest in my hair, and I am against that.
@TaylorHam86 - You would then hate this house of a man I know. He has 10s of thousands of teddy bears. There is not a space without teddybears in house. He's an oddball. He even removed his stove from his house to fit more teddybears. I think he talks to them.
I hate those porcelain dolls. I think they look really creepy, like they may stab me in my sleep. I think I am still influenced by the Twilight Zone.
Gross! I know how much dust our house collects in just a couple of days and how difficult it is to keep just the smooth, flat surfaces clean. I can't imagine how much dust is all over those fuzzy things! And they're definitely not easy to clean. Whyyy??
I don't much like the porcelain dolls either. But at least they're not so.. Absorbent. ?
I thought of another one. I hate it with a surprising amount of emotion when people lay on the wrong vowel for emphasis in typed communication. If you want to whine about how "this happens all the tiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiime" that's fine but do not ever type "all the timeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee" instead. Think about what you're typing, people. That E is silent.
Hmmmm, I always thought I was team SS. I liked the way they looked. I must confess it never even crossed my mind that they would be difficult to clean. Shows how much I know, lol. We are moving into a new condo next month that has stainless steel appliances, granite countertops, and hardwood floors....perhaps I've made a grave error?
Oh, and I'm totally team L&O, CSI, Cold Case, NCIS, etc.
We replaced all the appliances in our hose over the past 1.5 years and went with SS. One consideration we had was resale. If we went with white, in 6 or 7 years they would still be in great condition, but a lot of buyers car about SS, and the white would look "dated" - even though I don't think that. We figured for the $50 per appliance difference we'd just go with SS.
I don't find them hard to keep clean at all. I wipe them down with SS spray once a week, it does the job and they don't get finger-prints I find. And I have the messiest husband when it comes to the kitchen. My fridge door handle would have sticky food smears on it if it was SS, white or purple!
This! I love mine. I am not OCD or anything, but they are worth it for the times when you wipe them and they are perfect for about a day. They don't bother me otherwise. It probably reminds me to clean them more because they are so pretty. It reminds me of the carpet/hard floor choice. Hard floors are harder to keep clean-looking, but at least you know they are, in fact, clean!
My UO or just general b*tch is that this Joan River's thing is really bothersome, yes it was a terrible comment, yes that is a story/topic that should not ever be joked about just because of the terrible situation yes it was not funny but Cleveland media---you're giving her the attention that she craves, yes she's not gonna apologize----did you expect her too??? She's fairly self-centered, old, and plasticy to think about what she said and how it affects others.
@TaylorHam86 - Ditto. I already cringe at the thought of LO having too many (which would be more than 2? 3?).

Shame on you! How can you not love this sweetness!

I like my SS appliances and hardwood floors
I don't like horses mostly because I'm scared of them. My dad grew up on a horse farm. My sister is a horse vetenarian. Clearly I'm the odd one.
No idea what Joan Rivers said but it made me think of this UO (or is it a PO, not sure). I really don't get the appeal of Botox. It doesn't make you look any younger. It just makes you look all plastic. So instead of aging gracefully you just look like an old lady trying too hard to look young, which automatically makes you look even older IMO.

I too like the bad TV shows. Team media violence.. I like horror movies too. It's ok though because I balance all that out by being a total FREAK about Disney movies. This makes me well rounded, no?
Anyway, my UO: I hate bumper stickers. Hate them. Especially the ones that say "My kid is an honor student at blahbity blah school". And the stick figure families.. OMG.. I can't. But yeah, any and all bumper stickers. OH! And please, please, please, when I die let no one put an "In loving memory" sticker for me on their rear window!!!!!!
I hate birds. I saw Alfred Hitchcock's movie the Birds when I was young and had nightmares for weeks. I still freak out when they are flying near me.
Ahhhh this movie gave me nightmares for months. I used to live about 20 mins from where they filmed the movie, and drove past the white church all the time. So creepy!
I love avocado appliances. I love anything from the 60s and 70s. I have a retro orange toaster and kettle and my furniture is all mid-century brown wood. I even have my nana's old slow cooker from the 70s in my car right now. I hate modern looking things and my house looks like the set of a wes Anderson movie. I'm insanely jealous that American houses can get away with having wood panelling inside. Oh and wood panelling on a car? Amazing! I get many of my interior design tips from old episodes of kojak and Quincy.
My house looks like your grandma's house and I love it.
