  • I know I should be thankful, but my Uncle's baby shower gift to me was a night out at a festival. Except, I can only use it a few days before my due date (when it opens). That's summer time here, and I highly doubt I'd want to waddle around in the heat. I'm upset that he didn't get any input or even ask me when my due date was until he gave me the card. Now he won't stop bugging me about which day I want to go on. I'm totally hoping I'll be in labor by then, or have a baby by then. Thanks, but I know I'm not gonna be in the mood!

  • Grandparents making a big deal about what they want to be called and not wanting to be called grandma/grandpa seems completely weird to me.  (My mom was lobbying for Mimi.  What the what?)
My Mom has done this, too.  We just call her Grandma, but she says she doesn't like that. I told her to come up with her own name. My DS is 19 months old and she still has not come up with one that she likes.

The stainless steel comment got me thinking of another one: I dislike the neighborhoods where they cut all of the trees down to build houses. Typically, these are newer neighborhoods.  It makes me sad because I live in an area with such beautiful trees. I much prefer my "old" neighborhood with lots of trees even if most of the houses are old. (This may be something specific to my area...not sure. We have a lot of pine trees and I suspect they do this because the pine needles kill the grass and a lot of people don't want the hassle of trying to keep leaves off their grass.)
I agree with this.  Our neighborhood has just a bunch of tiny little trees.  I love driving through older neighborhoods where the trees have had time to grow and are actually trees!
You do realize that the trees were probably cut down to put in those neighborhoods too, right? And that those "tiny little trees" are those big trees you see in older neighborhoods... only they just need the time to grow? I grew up in a neighborhood that was once a giant crop field. Any trees planted, were planted when the neighborhood went in. Most of those big pretty trees take the longest to grow. Have patience :P

  • Oh I don't think I've done this one here... stainless steel appliances.  No thank you.  I love my white magnet board refrigerator covered in pictures and other stuff.  When we re-do the kitchen I will not be having stainless steel appliances.  Plus, the fingerprints.

Yeah yeah, I know they can make them now so that they can have magnets and don't have fingerprints everywhere, but the people who got them 5 years ago still have fingerprints all over the place.

UGH I was all team "SS Appliances" when we bought our house last year... now this house I was completely anti but still ended up with them since that's what was in the house and I wasn't about to buy all new appliances because of it. But I agree - I am not a SS appliance fan - they are such a PITA to keep clean.

They do this here in FL! I hate it. It doesn't take a genius to understand that shade helps and makes things less hot. Why would you want the sun beating down on your house, making you raise your A/C and cost you more money? A lot of people think I live in a jungle because we have a lot of trees in my part of town.

  • My neighborhood used to be a pecan orchard many years ago so I know the trees pre-date the neighborhood.  However, I think that part of the reason is that back a few decades ago, most homes were build-on-your-lot or custom homes...even your "affordable" homes tended to be this way.  Now most new home neighborhoods seem to be track homes and it seems like the developers come in and just wipe out all of the trees.  I am guessing it is somehow cheaper than building around them.  Plus, I am guessing maybe in my area people don't like the upkeep.

Honestly, it also concerns me when developers do this because of foundation issues...if they don't do proper dirt work and get all of the roots out then there can be differential movement as the roots degrade over time and leave voids in the soil.

  • I also hate the tree thing. I live in a province that is a huge percentage forest so to expand the city subdivisions they have to cut into bits of the forest. All the newer subdivision they have just cut down all the trees and levelled the land then leave it up to the new homeowner to put trees back in. I also hate that they don't build sidewalks in subdivisions, like they just expect everyone to drive everywhere and not even want to go for a walk around the neighbourhood.
  • I agree with stainless steel.  We have it in our house and although it looks pretty, my appliances never look clean.  I will also add dark hardwood floors to the list.  What the hell was I thinking.  Dark hardwood floors and a newfie.....not a good mix.

  • I don't like it when the USA remakes British TV shows. By all means, take our shows and enjoy them but you don't need to remake everything. We don't remake everything you send over here. Cases in point:

    The Office
    Skins
    Shameless

All of the originals of these are better than the remakes. I do enjoy the US office, but it's a lot sillier than the original UK version.

Add Being Human to that list. I loved the British version and couldn't even make it through the first episode of the US remake.

  • If they decide to do a c/s next Tuesday after my growth scan due to a super-sized kid I won't be that sad. DH and I own our business and have one employee, knowing when we will be out and when my mom and then grandma would need to come out to help would help me plan immensely. That said if he's not huge heck no I don't want to get cut, but the thought of having a plan seems nice (In an f-ed up way).

I really dislike the trend of TV shows about psychopaths and criminals. I hate even more that they win so many awards and receive so much positive attention, especially from young people. Sorry, but serial killers and meth dealers aren't heroes or role models, and there's no way our generation's obsession with them is healthy.

Add sex crimes to the list and ITA.

Yes! Totally forgot sex crimes. And the shows that claim to get us into the minds of the perps and pervs? Ugh. No.

Yeah...so I am one of those totally obsessed with crime shows. I love SVU, and shows like The First 48. I don't really get into the NCIS shows, but occasionally Criminal Minds will be. Good one to watch.
  • I guess I am guilty of liking the "bad guy" t.v. shows.  I love James Spader in The Blacklist even though he is a killer and, of course, I loved Larry Hagman in Dallas--both the new and old shows.

  • Hmmmm, I always thought I was team SS. I liked the way they looked. I must confess it never even crossed my mind that they would be difficult to clean. Shows how much I know, lol. We are moving into a new condo next month that has stainless steel appliances, granite countertops, and hardwood floors....perhaps I've made a grave error?

Oh, and I'm totally team L&O, CSI, Cold Case, NCIS, etc.  :)

We replaced all the appliances in our hose over the past 1.5 years and went with SS. One consideration we had was resale. If we went with white, in 6 or 7 years they would still be in great condition, but a lot of buyers car about SS, and the white would look "dated" - even though I don't think that. We figured for the $50 per appliance difference we'd just go with SS.

I don't find them hard to keep clean at all. I wipe them down with SS spray once a week, it does the job and they don't get finger-prints I find. And I have the messiest husband when it comes to the kitchen. My fridge door handle would have sticky food smears on it if it was SS, white or purple!

Yes! I live in Washington so love all the beautiful trees. We bought our house mainly for this reason. We have a green belt behind us so no one can build behind us and our backyard is covered in beautiful, tall trees. The needles SUCK and we don't have much grass but I wouldn't trade them for anything. Most houses here don't have AC since it doesn't get that hot. But our house is perfect in the summer from all of the shade!

Haha yea I know :-)  I am just impatient and hate dealing with all these little trees!
