Spitting???

Does anyone else have a spitter?  DD will spit at you if you do something she doesn't like (example, take away a toy, tell her no, whatever).  She will also swat at you, which I'm more familiar with.  My DS (5) never did this spitting thing and it is driving.me.insane.  She is the type that will do stuff like this just to get attention and a reaction out of you...so to date, I have been trying to ignore this hoping she will stop.  It's been about a week now and I'm wondering if I need to try another tactic.  My DS was so easy in this regard and I'm getting all of my childhood payback through her.

Anyone else dealing with something like this? How would you handle for this type of child?

Re: Spitting???

  • @chipmunk - Yes, in NC.  Raleigh.  You??

@jfresh - glad to hear it was only two weeks!

I will try walking away...my DH is less than helpful, his opinion is this is better than hitting (which she also does)...but I disagree - this is hugely disrespectful, not to mention unsanitary.  I always say; she's going to be a blast when she's older...she's so engaging and fun...but the attitude and demanding nature is difficult to deal with. I DREAD the 2/3 age with her...DS wasn't a dream about it but I have a feeling she is going to set the record books.

  • @chipmunk - one of my bff's lives in eagle ridge over that way!  small world!
  • Yep Tucker spits and it drives me crazy.  He does it when he's mad; I tell him not to spit, we don't spit, spitting is gross, etc. but it hasn't stopped him.

  • LO spits sometimes. It seemed to be when she was mad about something. I always go by the tactic of ignoring and walking away. I find if I give her attention she thinks it is a game and loves the reaction so she does it more.
