Ultrasound - gender changing? [edited]

So we are having a third ultrasound in a few weeks (I'll be about 31.5 weeks). The way the dr made it sound was that it is standard though. I was told later by someone else that they only do third ultrasounds if you are having issues in your pregnancy. If that's the case, I think it is because I was having some weird pains and cramping a few weeks ago. I'm really not concerned about her health, the way she acts and kicks lets me know she is healthy and active, and my dr has told me there is absolutely nothing to worry about.
Anyways, I was told this baby was a girl at anatomy scan at 21 weeks, even though I was like 95% positive it was a boy. EVERYTHING was consistent with boy, all my symptoms and cravings and everything. I know that doesn't mean anything technically but I was sure it was. After finding out it was a girl, I was shocked, but soon became thrilled. Now I'm afraid that we will discover it will be a boy! I just have everything pretty girly, nursery all set up and everything. Dr said he was almost 100% positive it is a girl, so I know I'm probably all weirded out of over nothing. Sorry it's so long I just had to get that off my chest! :/ Did your baby's gender change from one US to another?

  • He didn't tell me there was any concern to do a third ultrasound, he just told me they planned to do a third one.. I only found out later that a third ultrasound is usually done only due to concerns
  • I have an US once a month. I would not worry.

    Why so often??
  • I have had about 7. All is fine. Maybe my age? I'm 40? I did have a low placenta but that resolved and baby is breech I just had US at 31 weeks and will go back at 35 to see if she has turned.

I love having the US so I don't mind.

  • I have my 4th ultrasound this week because my placenta was still low at my last check. We are team green, but I have to say I do not understand how you can be 95% certain your kid was a boy. There is nothing that can tell you that except an u/s (though sometimes they don't get the right angle to see it, though your doctor sounds pretty confident) or the birth of the kid when you find out. Otherwise, it's all just a big guess.
  • I've been given no reason to be concerned about her health, thank god. I know, I am grateful every time she kicks. I was just trying to vent about something I know is silly.

  • So we are having a third ultrasound in a few weeks (I'll be about 31.5 weeks), I think because I was having some weird pains and cramping a few weeks ago.

So, you're getting an ultrasound because there might be reason for concern about the health of your pregnancy and child, but you're not worried at all about that..... You just care about the sex.... Priorities, check them.

Once again, I am not concerned about her health. Dr said she seems fine and has told me that everything is perfectly normal. He did not give me a reason as to why we are doing another ultrasound, just that we are. I only was told later by other sources that they are sometimes cause for concern. I don't think there is anything to be worried about. She kicks a ton, she responds to me all the time, I have never bled while prego. I'm sure she's fine.
Clearly you can't post on here without everyone being rude! Of course I would be more worried about her health, but I don't think anything is wrong with her.
  • Quote from you - "So we are having a third ultrasound in a few weeks (I'll be about 31.5 weeks), I think because I was having some weird pains and cramping a few weeks ago."
  • I know the feeling! At our first US they said it was a boy, and I was thrilled! Then they needed to do a second one because the way he was positioned there were some things they couldn't get...and I have to admit that even though it was VERY clear the first time I was little nervous it would be different the second time! Not that I would be disappointed to have a girl but because my heart was then set on boy and I had bought some boy things! :) Why were you having weird pains and cramping? Did they figure that out?

I'm having a 3rd ultrasound next week (I'll be 33 weeks). This is just standard at my OB's office. If they had a concern about pains and or cramping that you had a few weeks ago, then you would have had the ultrasound a few weeks ago.

And if you're so unsure about whether or not the sex of your baby is what they told you it was, then maybe you should have waited until you knew for sure (when the baby is born) to buy everything. Just sayin.

I was just trying to make my point a little clearer, don't be a b*tch :)
  • erm.  I guess it's good that you're having a third ultrasound if you don't believe the doctor from the previous one?  Honestly, I would trust the person who saw the baby (and will be seeing her/him again) instead of old wives tales.

No, never did find out why. It only happened one night, I actually thought I was going into labor! They felt like very painful menstrual cramps, coming out of nowhere, every minute for fifteen minutes straight, very confusing, then they went away! For no reason!
They hooked me up to a monitor and dr told me everything looked 100% ok and I have nothing to worry about.
Idk why it happened but that was almost a month ago, and hasn't happened since!

  • I admit, I'm 30 weeks and still have that fear.  My family has probably bought 100 girly outfits for our daughter, so I'd feel bad if it turned out to be a boy, just because of that, NOT because I don't want a boy.

I know that sounds so silly, and it wouldn't be a really big deal if she turned out to be a he, but just another of my dumb pregnancy fears.

It's not enough for me to request another U/S though.  If my midwife wants another one, then we'll see, but I won't request one just for the sex.

Im really disappointed in you guys!  No one asked OP who these "sources" were that told her that you only get a third US if there are concerns. Great aunt Trudy?  Parking attendant?  Check out girl? Who?

    Edit spelling is hard
  • Every pregnancy is different, even with the same woman. Symptoms do not indicate the sex of the baby. Chances are, you're carrying a girl like your doctor said. If not, redo the nursery or just put the boy in the pink nursery. There are much, much bigger things to worry about.

And it's really doesn't make you out to be such a wonderful person to go around name calling and being rude.

Why are you guys so mean?  This place is supoosed to be for suport.  I have a friend who'se cousin's BEST friend had a gender ultrasound saying the baby was a boy, and then the baby was born a GIRL.  And she totally knew it the entire time because the IntelliGender test *SAID* it was going to be a girl, and she was craving sweet stuff and BabyCenter's Asian gender predictor chart said girl too.  So, it could totally happen.

Plus, who is going to put a BOY in a PINK nursery?!!??!?!?  Do you want your baby to be GAY?
You're right. I'm going to go home and write in my pregnancy journal about all the ways I feelz sorry for my husband! And I've heard that stress from bitchy hormonal women on the Bump makes babies gay too!

It's really sweet of you to admit you're wrong.  I bet your husband fnally set you straight when he got home from work.  I mean, it happens to everyone, 'cuz we're all just helpless women trying to be in control of our feelings.

  • FFS, if you're Dr is running any kind of test and you don't know why, ASK! That's the only way you're going to know.

I had a third ultrasound because my placenta was a little low at my a/s. They wanted to make sure it was moving up, away from my cervix. And if the Dr said you're having a girl, then you're probably going to have a........ girl. Cravings and wive's tales don't mean shit.
