period like pains

does this mean your dilating? I'm almost 36 weeks and have had period cramps for a couple days but nothng consistent it just happens for a about ten minutes a couple times a day. just curious as to why this happens? it's not Braxton contractions cuz I've already felt those so I'm assuming it's dilation?

Re: period like pains

  • it means your body is prepping for labor.  It does not mean you're dilating though.  Your real contractions will feel like a combo of the BH and the period like cramps (times a million).  Just more practice.

I don't remember them telling me that in my class (they could have and I seriously just don't recall), I just speak from experience!

  • I'm almost 36 weeks and stopped
My Procardia last Thursday and was dilated to a 1 on Friday. I was not in bedrest today and yesterday and have had some intense period like cramps today and pressure on the cervix!

  • My contractions with DD felt like period cramps. I've also been having them the last week, and now I'm dilated 3 cm, so I'm assuming they are doing something....

  • I had period-like cramps for days after my Prostin (Cervidil) placements with DS, but they never developed into stronger contractions and my cervix never dilated.

  • I'm cramping too. I hope they're doing something... Like softening/ripening cervix or whatever because I want this kid to come on his own! I'm 36 wks and glad things are going on in there!

  • Yup me too and I'm 36w2d-- it's worse when I'm walking-- I hope it's dilation or something positive

yep- period cramps that get stronger and closer together, last for a long time and are accompanied by the tightness  that's exactly how mine felt
    This!
  • I've had them too & read that it is often caused by cervical changes. I got checked & am 3cm dilated at 38wks
  • I just feel like I have period cramps all the time. Not in waves so they're not contractions. I think it's just that she's shifted position to lower and new muscles are having to compensate and they hate me. It's way worse when I'm up walking around. But I'm 38 weeks so I'm just chalking it up to getting closer. Hopefully it's a good sign things are moving along as they should. I want her to stay in 9 more days until my mom gets in town but after that whenever she's ready will be perfect for me!

  • I've been getting these since 32 weeks or so. My dr. says they are just how my body handles getting ready for labor. At 36 weeks, I was already progressing (very soft cervix, slightly dilated), so my hope is that these cramps are moving me along. I also think it's the baby's position because mine are always, mysteriously, after I get up at night to pee. After I've emptied my bladder. I feel like the baby shifts back into a position that causes the painful cramps.

  • Wow!! My same story, my mom is my coach as well as my hubby. She will be home in 8 days... I cannot wait. I have period pains constantly, but I did ask the dr, she said it is normal, if I spot, have them (contractions) 5-1-1, or my water breaks to go in. Good luck with everything.
  • I have been having cramping very often now but they are random. I also have achy hips so im hoping im making some progress!
