GTKY: Have we asked about hobbies yet?

I want to know what your hobbies are!

I have some listed in my signature - but among others: gardening, thrifting, looking at old houses, crocheting (when it's cold), and dreaming about owning a farm.

  • I second you on dreaming about owning a farm! I sometimes like to pretend I enjoy knitting, usually I'll finish a row or two and get bored. I love hiking and reading, playing with my furbaby, and until now volunteer firefighting but that's going to have to be put on hold until LO is here

  • I do some community theater and I like to write, but I don't know if that counts because it's also my career. I also enjoy cooking and baking and if it weren't for my aversion to cleaning I'd make a pretty awesome housewife. I like to read, too... But I don't get as much done as I'd like to.

haha! That's why I only crochet in the winter... when it's too cold to do anything but sit under a blanket. I made my first blanket this year (a Christmas present for my daughter)... I had only made scarves and dishcloths before that. It was half amazing, half torture - but i do love how it turned out!

My husband would LOVE to own a farm.  It's one of his dreams.  It just seems like a lot of work to me.  I'm such a party pooper.

@mchacon18 You are my woman! Seriously!

TELL ME ABOUT YOUR HOUSE! I hope when we buy our farm someday it has an ooooold victorian to rehab. Our current house is from 1926 but we're pretty much done "restoring" it so I'm ready for another!

Also - we just got our first chicks this year! We have TEN (currently living inside until it's warm enough out).. so fun to know there are others who do too!

  • Our house was built in early 20s. Its a flagstone two story house with zero insulation and its original oak floors. AND it was cheap haha !! I love victorian style homes but thats just not the style in my state! We love remodeling and my husband is an all around handy man so we do it all ourselves.
We have 90 birds in all. My husband built incubators so we sell chicks mostly Old English Bantams and Heritage turkeys. There is nothing like fresh eggs and fresh meat. We save alot on grocerys because we garden and can. And hunt so I cook alot of venison!

  • I love baking, working in the yard, traveling and spending time with my DH and our 3 dogs
  • We travel… A lot.  It's an expensive hobby, but we live a VERY simple lifestyle so that we are able to spend our money traveling.  The best education is traveling the world.

Starting from the far east… China, Hong Kong, Macau, Thailand, Philippines, Laos, Spain, Kenya, Colombia, Ecuador, Bolivia, Peru, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Mexico, and of course, Canada.  And when I look at that list, it seems so small… We're always itching to take another trip.
Yes to traveling! On your list we've done China and Thailand and loved them both. Last year and this year we've switched to domestic vacations though to save money - national parks here we come! However, we're dying to do Europe soon, and hoping that it will be feasible with a baby...
Thats amazing!!! Now that we're living in South America, we actually have a slight regret about NOT doing as much domestic travel within the US.  We swear if we ever move back, we will do a LOT of national parks… especially out west.  We are huge into camping/hiking!

Europe will be more than feasible with a baby.  We did China, Hong Kong, Macau, Thailand and Philippines when my daughter was between the ages of 5 months and 11 months.  Worth every single moment.  You realize how spoiled momma's have it in the US.  :) Changing table? Nope… Just do like everyone else and use the table at the restaurant! haha

yes! yay for no insulation! half our windows are painted shut too.. haha!
when we bought our house the entire two floors were GREEN shag carpet. we pulled them up to find the original white oak floors COVERED in black carpet tar. I was so sad. THANKFULLY we were able to refinish them! I am so thankful for my handy husband (who is in the garage finishing building our coop as I type this...) he is in the trades for a living so I like to think he enjoys most of my projects too :)

Ha! so were our windows ! And they were leaky, we live in a dust bowl so dirt would just pour through them on windy days, we have finished replacing them all except the ones in our room. Ugh I hate that oak floors were ruined, somebody put down gold linoleum over our kitchen and bathroom floors but that shits ripped up now. My only complaint with this house is it only has one TINY bathroom. Plans for a second are in the works! Sonetimes i'm envious of my friends who live in brand new house but we would be really bored if we did.

To those beautiful women who travel, I am forever jealous. It's just not in the cards for me right now but I've been to Germany, the Bahamas, Mexico and then almost all 50 states. Just need to hit the west coast!

Before DS I was a workout nut but I haven't worked out for real in 4 years (I worked out until 38 weeks with him). It makes me sad and I plan on changing that real soon. I can't believe it's been that long!

  • I just bought a Groupon for a crochet class.  Hoping to start before this pregnancy/preparing for baby gets out of hand.

I coach cheerleading (it doesn't pay enough to be considered a "job," though I suppose that is what it is), love reading, and have a slight TV addiction.  I enjoy baking but haven't been doing it as much lately.  I spent many years as a hip-hop dancer, and while cheer keeps me choreographing, I haven't been in a dance class in about three years.  I'm dying to get back into it.  I also enjoy trying new restaurants, but DH prefers his tried-and-true faves so it doesn't happen much.

  • I have so so many hobbies. Reading, writing, crocheting, sewing, baking, movies (it's what I do most days when I have no motivation lol). As someone else said, besides the aversion to cleaning, I'm basically a perfect house wife.

  • Interesting, lots of passive hobbies. Mine is more active... It's Sports! Every, any & all kinds of active sports! I play soccer and netball and also snowboard in the winter, and play summer soccer, softball and bodyboard / swim in the summer.

I'm really bummed that I'll miss the last 3 or 4 games of my soccer season coz my doc said I have to give up contact sports after the first trimester :-(
At least I can still play netball and go for runs & cycles. I'm hoping my pregnancy & post-pregnancy body doesn't restrict me from doing too much, I go a bit nuts if I can't exercise!
  • @achickpea I do community theater too! I'm working on a show right now. Our theater does an annual Holocaust rememberance performance.

@marriedinaugust I really want to learn more about cloth diapering. Everything I look at seems so overwhelming but I'm up for anything that will save money and be safer for a little one.

Other than community theater we spend a lot of time with our friends and I love finding crafts on Pinterest to do :)

  • All of my free time is spent with my husband, 6 mo old and our horses. Love to ride and just to sit in the field with them after a long day at work (where I also work with horses).

I occasionally like to be crafty, but I'm more of a starter than a finisher of projects.

I think I should be in search of more hobbies!
  • I LOVE a good book. I could read for hours. I also am a hunter. We just spent the weekend turkey hunting (with no success).
I would love to learn how to crochet. I know I need to so something productive like this. I guess maybe I'll try to learn. I love to travel.
    And I love to eat...is that a hobby? :)
  • I love cooking/baking, running, gardening, wine :(, taking my dog to the dog park, traveling, and I'm trying to get into knitting.
