DH & I are discussing this....

If you are allergic to pecans can you eat something that is smoked from a pecan tree?

He says yes. I say no.

Who's right?

Re: DH & I are discussing this....

  • I would imagine it would depend on the severity of the allergy...

  • It probably varies by person.  DD is allergic to eggs.  She can eat them in baked goods, but not alone.

  • I've eaten things smoked with pecan wood...but I'm allergic to tree nuts. It's an adult allergy, so it's getting worse though, so why risk it.
  • I used to work at a restaurant that used pecan wood and we had to advise people that we did incase of allergies.

  • I realize that the wood is separate from the allergen in the protein which is the actual nut. I guess that's what DH was trying to say ha.

Disclaimer - we don't have allergies. Just arguing over it because he got chicken sausage that said it was peacan smoked. My neighbor was like woah I'm allergic & DH was like you could still eat it. It isn't the same. Then while they all goggled it I posted here. Thanks ladies!! :)
  • I'm not reading the answers yet, but I would say your husband is right. The protein is in the nut, not the wood.
