Success after IF

Intro and BC question

My IVF #5 twin girls are 6 weeks old. They are beautiful and perfect; the answer to years of prayers. I'm sure this has been discussed, but curious what others did about birth control? It is ridiculous to think we need it since 14 years of no protection never resulted in a pregnancy, but we are definitely done for now. I hated BCP and not interested in anything permanent yet.

We use condoms. I just didn't want to put anymore hormones in my body, so the pill was out for me. Although, when my OB asked what my plan was at 6w, I told her abstinence. For the first year of twin parenthood, that was pretty much true for us!!

    Congrats and welcome!

ETA: I should add that I was a raging lunatic on the pill, so that had quite a bit to do with my choice.

  • I recognize your avatar from PAIF I think.  Congrats on your girls!

I'm one of those who got pregnant on my own with a miracle baby after years of IF and treatment.  It took us 3 months to conceive #2.  So I know it can vary depending on your diagnosis, but if you are definitely done, I'd do something prevention-wise.  I see you are DOR and MFI.  I think we had a girl on this board with DOR and MFI who also got pregnant on her own.

    Welcome to SAIF!

  • I'm on the mini pill, but I don't mind being on BC.

But in all seriousness, uh, another vote for abstinence. We work split schedules because the girls don't have medical clearance for daycare, so I only see my husband for 15 minutes a day tops. Plus, I need sleep not sex. :)

  • We use the pull n pray method but we want more kids just not right this second. I also suggest the non hormonal IUD.

    #4!!!!!!! due June 2017
  • I am on BCP now, but it is more to regulate my cycles than to prevent pregnancy (although we don't want any more children any time soon). I tolerate hormonal birth control well, but I would also recommend a non-hormonal IUD if you don't want to go on the pill.

If you're definitely done for now and don't want anything permanent, I highly recommend an IUD. They can be implanted for 5 or 10 years, and have one of the highest effective rates. It's used so frequently in other countries but not the USA.
