I have been with my H 8 years, married for 5 and a half. Over this time my in-laws have acknowledged my birthday (card, writing on my fb wall) about twice. So, now I know why.
My in-laws were over on the weekend for Easter, and I was telling them about how DD likes to pretend it's my birthday, sing happy birthday and give me a pretend cake and flowers (she's 3). My SMIL asked, is it your birthday? And I was like, no (I mean I was just telling a story about a game of pretend DD likes to play, and she gets so excited and says "birfday" - I find it so cute). Anyway, she's like yeah, I thought your birthday was in September. I say, no it's June, trying to brush it off as no big deal (cause it's not really important to the story). But she wouldn't let it go, "Why did I think your birthday was in September?" she kept going on...
My DH's XW's birthday was in September. Awkward.
Do your in-laws acknowledge your birthday?
Re: Do your in-laws acknowledge your birthday?
MIL sends me a card with $25 in it even though she doesn't have two nickels to rub together.
However, it's pretty hard to forget my birthday as DD was born on it and DS's birthday is a week before.
My husband's grandparents give me the exact same amount of $ that they give him and his brother. And have for as long as I can remember.
My parents give each of their four kids, and spouses, gifts or cash totaling the exact same amount. They like things to be even.
It's not about the money - it's the thought. This is one of the reasons my husband's parents irk me.
I can't get the ticker to work, but I have two sons:
Baby RJ, born 1/25/2014
Formerly Twilightmv
Usually its just a card or something small (which is fine by me). Except this past year, it was nothing. Which struck me as odd, I'll admit. My MIL has always been big on cards so it was weird to not get one.
