best baby-wearing device for hands-free feeding?

Hi all ... I have a 2-year-old and a 6-day old. The NB likes to eat all day long. I am pretty much living on my sofa. The toddler is not pleased. My husband is going back to work next week. I don't think I will be able to effectively care for my toddler while also living on my sofa.  Can anyone recommend a baby-wearing device that will allow me to feed the NB while also freeing up my hands?  I tried a Moby wrap with my first child and just could not get the hang of it. If it makes a difference, I am fairly slim and have relatively small breasts.

  • A ring sling will free one of your hands. I don't know about an ergo-type character for the newborn phase, but it worked for me by four months.

  • I was also going to suggest a ring sling, and then move to an Ergo. I have very large breasts and wasn't able to ever figure out nursing in the RS, but my best friend who is about a C cup loved doing so (for the same reason as you!). When your babe has more head control, the Ergo is great for nursing.

  • I don't know where you live, but I haven't had much luck finding ring slings in person, so I've ordered online (and DIY'd). So, if you do decide to order one, you can work more with your Moby.

I found the key to the Moby was to be meticulous about wrapping without lumps/bumps. If I was very careful to make sure the rails were smooth, it was much more comfortable. I also watched A TON of youtube videos to get it right. To nurse in it, I had to think of it as a third arm for me, on that supported the baby's body, giving me one arm to tend to other things, while one arm supported my baby's head. If you wrap the moby kind of low, then put the baby into it across your abdomen/chest (as if you were holding the baby to nurse) and have the fabric hold your baby while you use your other hand to help with the head. I don't know if that makes sense at all - I hope it does! It's hard to explain and hard to get used to, but youtube was super helpful!

I have a boba but I haven't tried nursing in it yet. A friend of mine does all the time, she just loosens the shoulder straps a bit to lower her LO and then raises her and tightens the straps when she's done. Another friend has a koala kin but that is just for nursing so I don't know how functional it is as a regular carrier. She loves using it for nursing her LO. GL!! Edited: name of carrier
