Baby wearing mamas come in!

So I decided to bust out my k'tan today, as I have family coming up for Easter and needed to get stuff done around the house. It is definitely not how I thought it would be. It is so awkward having this big bulge on your front (I know you would think I would be used to it after 9 months). I tried to do dishes, and being only 4'11" I could barely reach the sink without squishing her up against it. I had to turn sideways. Other tasks are just as difficult. I can't bend over to get stuff off the floor without holding on to her. I bought a Large, which is just slightly too big, I think I need a Medium, but lost my recipt. However I don't think that would solve most of my problems. Does this get easier with time? Anyone have any tricks? Anyone else find these carriers just as annoying?? Everyone raves about them, so I couldn't wait to try it out, but I am pretty disappointed so far.

  • I have the moby and it took me awhile yesterday how to do things with it. Unloading the washer/dryer was hard, I had to stand sideways and bend a weird way but I got it to work

  • I've heard with ktans you need to size down - are you sure you aren't a small? I'm petite and love baby wearing. Sorry you aren't digging it. Maybe you would prefer a more structured carrier, or a wrap that you can adjust the snugness on yourself.

  • I know with the moby you can side wear the baby. Not sure about the k'tan though. I havent tried the side wearing but I still like the moby.
  • Maybe I should size down a few sizes. I'll have to look into side wearing! Thanks!

  • I don't remember what the hug position is. If she's slumping in kangaroo maybe it's not tight enough? Getting them nice and high on your chest is key for comfort and not feeling awkward, and some carriers definitely work better for some people. @lilmama412‌ at your height I would be really surprised if you didn't need a small.

  • In the past week, I've been using my Belle Baby carrier a lot more than my moby style wrap because it's easier to put on and take off, and she is less disturbed by the process of inserting and extracting too. Plus, my little asphyxiation-lover tends to bury her face deep into my sternum and I'm always paranoid about her access to air flow. The Belle carrier is low profile and keeps her head cradled while leaving lots of breathing room. I won't try her in our Boba until she's several months old.
  • I have a beco but thought ds was too small for it just yet so I went out and got a Moby. I used it once and was constantly readjusting him. I tried my beco yesterday and he was much more supported and was breathing better and fit just fine. Needless to say, I returned my Moby yesterday and will stick to my beco. It helps to try different carriers to see what works best for you and yor LO for sure.
  • I can't function without baby wearing. It has saved me. One baby is pretty much always awake and that's the baby I wear. I have 6 kinds of carriers (all were gifts except the Ergo). So far the Moby and especially the Ergo are my fav.

  • I've used the Ergo around the house.  It's not perfect, but seems to work fine for stuff like vacuuming, dusting, putting laundry away, stuff like that.  Bending over isn't great (I use one arm to hold the baby in, just in case), and anything that has to be done right in front of you is tough (folding laundry, etc).  I wouldn't cook because I'd be worried about hot stuff coming in contact with baby (I'm kind of a klutz and spill a lot).  Dishes would also be hard.

  • We have a k'tan that I've used a few times on walks and other errands. It's so comfortable, and DS zonks right out in it! It doesn't hurt my back like my Bjorn did. The only downside is its hot. The manual does say only kangaroo carry for infants, I think.

  • I have a k'tan. I'm five feet tall exactly, and a little plump, so I got a large. Big mistake. Went grocery shopping with DD in it, by the time I was done, she was slipping and my back hurt like hell. I also bought it used. Monday I'll be buying the Infantino Mei Tai, and hopefully I'll have better luck.
  • Yeah the vast majority of people are going to need a small or medium ktan.

  • I'm 5'1" and 130ish non pregnant and the size small fits well (snugly).
