  • I'm kidding, BTW. . ;) I just hadn't seen anyone ask this yet on our board and was feeling kind of nostalgic. I saw it at least once a day when I was pregnant with DS.

Any other silly questions you're surprised you haven't run across yet?

  • I'm surprised we haven't had a serious mucous plug pic posted yet. I think it was on one if the tri boards a year or two ago that someone did that. Seriously ladies, I don't want to see it. Or your bloody show. So gross!

  • I always cringe when I see this question. My answer is NOTHING. Why cause yourself pain weeks before it's necessary???

OMG noooooooo. I seriously hope everyone on this board has the sense not to post that. Though I wouldn't put it past 3rd Tri...

  • How does one "toughen" their nips anyway? I'm thinking of dragging a truck with mine. Will that work?

Someone actually did that a couple of months ago on 3rd tri. She couldn't tell if it was their MP or diarrhea. Then she called us rude bitches for telling her that the photo was gross and inappropriate.

That is so disgusting! :-O I lost mine yesterday/today and I would have preferred not to see my own! I only lost small pieces at a time with DD, I was unprepared for how gross it was.

  • I've heard to run a wash cloth over them to toughen them up ... a couple people I know swear by it. Not going to lie, I've done it in the shower a few times - worst comes to worst they will be fabulously exfoliated if it does shit to toughening them up :)

haha, until I saw this was not from a FTM, I was like "uh, good luck with that, nothing could have prepared me (or them) for the pain that comes with the first weeks of nursing!"
I only nursed DS for 3 weeks before I finally gave in to his bottle preference and started pumping, but honestly I never had all that much pain even though he was greedy and impatient and had a bad latch. My nipples did get sore, but it wasn't extreme in any way.

  • Could always get DH to suck on em every few hours. Get used to the sensation.

I did! I voted DH's beard because that one gave me the most entertaining mental images.

  • This made me laugh because my MIL just had an awkward conversation with me about how I should do this!

These things are not very easy to confuse.  That's frightening.  I mean typical pregnant vag ick versus MP, fair enough to confuse, but diarrhea?  Huh?  Holy wow.

Exactly how do you not know if it's diarrhea or if it came from your vag?!

@miles2go is fisting recommended for toughening up your vag? I've never done it but it sounds legit!

    It's a TB specialty.

Love this. In all seriousness a friend recommended NOT toughening them up and instead start using the lanolin or a nipple cream a few weeks before baby's due. As a FTM I have no clue but she has two babies and BF so seems like good advice. Plus ill take cream>steel wool anyday.
Honestly there really is nothing you can do to prepare.Lanolin and other nipple treatments don't accumulate over time to build protection. They wear off and wash off, so there's no point in wasting expensive creams before it's time. The best you can do is take care of your nipples once you do start nursing, and treat the discomfort then.
